330ml bottle shared with Finn at t Antwaerps Bierhuiske. Fawn coloured head with lots of dimples. Dark brown body. Smell of sweet malts added by salty notes. Flavour is slightly roasted, sweet malts together with hints of anise and almond, and with modest notes of salt. Smooth ending. Masked alcohol. Feels good in the mouth, but without greater excitements (my rating no. 3999) (Antwerpen, 28.04.2011).

TEJA (2626) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - APR 13, 2011
Draught at Monks Porter House. High fluffy brown head. Dark red-brown color. Fruity acidic arom that lacks both coffey and chocolate. The choclat is present in the taste. The beer has a medium body and medium bitternes and a tuch of fruit. Plesent ber but strange for a stoute.

Bottle at home trip planning for Sweden. Has changed labels to some old man of the sea holding a mermaid while some shipwrecked drunkard looks onward. Pours black hazy body with little room for light. Tan head that settles down to the sides of the glass, hugging like barnacle. Aromatics are different, not so much sea tones, but inky and a bit like iodine dye, there does seem to be a hint of salinity here. A light chocolate malt character and a kiss of roastiness. Soft and oily with a touch of chocolate malt a hint of licorice, and a mild roasted bitterness. Leaves me thirsty for more. I much enjoyed this fine stout.

rand (1520) - SWITZERLAND - MAR 20, 2011
Bottle 33 cl from Bierparadijs in Meer (B). Curious gushing for a black beer without fizz, with thin and ochre foam, many floating particles. A few laces on the glass. The nose is of roasted malt, espresso, toffee, chocolate. The taste is sweet, generous, coffee and licorice, chocolate, vanilla and tobacco. Bitterness as well of roasted as hop. Smooth, low acidity, average roundness. Finale of black coffee, Kahlua, a line of sweetness and hints of salt which strengthens it.

Putting on-tap, as Im not sure how they poured it - and my wife didnt pay attention as they did. Brought to me in the glass from the brewery at the 12th Belgian Beer Weekend. But Ive bought plenty of bottles as well. Dark cloudy brown nearing black. I think it would have been blacker had there not been particulate floating around. But it looked pretty good. Faint fishy smell to it, should be there as it is supposedly filtered through oyster shells. Hint of roastiness. A little bit of sweetness as well. There is the fishy smell coming back on my tongue. The thought of it seems abnormal, but it really seems at home. Roasted grain, little bit of caramel. Smooth and sweet. Sticks to the mouth just in the right mixture to linger long enough, but not overpower you with the sweetness. Very drinkable, which to me is surprising I would like it so much. If it was not for the huge crowd of people I would have gone back to get more.

SHIG (4930) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - FEB 23, 2011
Bottle: Poured a brown black with some sediment, the head was light tan. Aroma is sweet with a chocolate and coffee. Taste is weak compared to the aroma, very water with some chocolate and metallic.

Bottle from Van Pernis, Arnhem. Almost black pour with a good white head. Stout notes in the aroma with some coffee. Coffee, burned malts, liquorice and a touch of salt in the taste. Never ate oysters so cant judge how the oyster hints are in this brew. Nevertheless, very nice Stout with a gentle tasty hint of salt.
