BlackHaddock's rating

BlackHaddock (7232) - Shropshire, - NOV 8, 2012
My night-cap on 23rd Oct 2012 in the excellent Cafe De Grendelpoort in Valkenburg, Holland. 33cl bottle poured with its sediment into the correct brewery glass. The beer poured almost black, very dark brown maybe (the pub is dark to start with): on top a thin tanned foam. Mixed bag in the nose and tastes: malts first and foremost, mild liquorice front with sweeter molassses taking over, a mini hop, dry finish completes the flavours but there is a lot more going on inbetween. My bottle had a nice, but unexpected and unusual ’semi-sour’ feel (for a Stout) to it throughout the tasting. I also thought the alcohol level isn’t hidden to any great extent. Complexed and different with a variety of fruit notes and malty levels of roasted/toasted chocolate and coffee.

Stout-bier met verrassend lichte smaak, en relatief laag bitterheidsgehalte. Ideaal voor wie eens een stout-bier wil drinken zonder meteen voor de zware stout-bieren te gaan.

ALIBALI (1957) - Kiel, GERMANY - MAY 6, 2017
Gesunde Salzwasserlauge klatscht aufs moosige Redberryröstywölckchen. Gerne wieder. Elegant säuerlich & angenehm; mineralisch 🎆 .033l Buddel im CAFE BELGE, Leuven.

Sweet: malty, caramel. A bit metallic and watery (considering this is a stout). Not a very good stout, but it’s not a bad beer.

ClaudeB04 (400) - Dudelange, LUXEMBOURG - APR 11, 2017
Deep dark with small of head. Extremly sweet with some stout hints in the quickly vanishing finish. More malzbier than stout to me.

Jimbo2 (447) - DENMARK - APR 9, 2017
Very decent. Nice roasted flavours and aroma, somewhat caremal-ish and slightly hoppy. Nice lingering finish. Fairly low carbonation.

Ruikt naar donker fruit, pruimen. Alcoholsmaak iets te sterk, had iets bitterder gemogen. Globaal gesproken had dit bier iets stouter moeten zijn.

Roasted malts, dark fruits, dark brown with a thin head, medium body, medium carbonation, taste is similar...not bad.

PowY (695) - AUSTRIA - MAR 4, 2017
330 ml bottle. Pours a dark red-brown with a tan colored head. The aroma is medium malty with roasted malt (toffee and chocolate) and lightly yeasty with a light fruitiness. Medium to full body with a medium carbonation, a light bitterness and a medium sweetness. The taste is full of roasted malt, lots of chocolate, molasses, dark fruits, raisins, nuts and some coffee in the aftertaste.

Khosrove (81) - LATVIA - MAR 4, 2017
A bit of a netallic aftertaste. Seems also a bit too sweet. Other than that everything as promised, malty, coffee, caramel.
