Pours orange-gold with white foamy head. Strong and pleasant malty aroma. Hops up-front, bready/biscuit malt brings up the rear. Dry aftertaste. Well balanced and a good representative of the style. I rather like Vienna’s and this is a good one. DasBierChef (1083) - Hudson, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 17, 2011
This beer is really pretty decent, but still nothing much to it. I like some more complexity. hellomynameis (877) - Mayer, Minnesota, USA - FEB 24, 2010
Dark yellow with some red hues, small to medium head when poured that dissapted to just a dusting of white foam around half the glass. Aroma has some hops maybe a bit of yeast. Very drinkable, get some grassy notes and a good malt profile. Finishes with a nice dose of hops, but I it’s terribly bitter. Very clean letting the flavour show through.

Pours amber with a white head. Aroma is bready maltiness with a touch of spicy, citrus hops. Taste is crisp with bread, grass, tea and just a touch of spice. Not bad asedzie (830) - San Francisco, California, USA - AUG 25, 2010
Bottle. Pours deep amber with medium off-white head, delicate lacing. Aroma jumps right out, bright leafy pine and floral hop scent, subtle citrus notes. Flavor and palate are outstanding. Round, nicely textured malt. A cleanness noticeable from the lager yeast, fresh cookie dough malt flavor, very mild spice, lingering bitterness and piney resin. A world-class lager that could probably compete with some of the best of germany and czech, very nicely balanced, too, not over the top with american hop flavors.

[Bottle] Pours deep amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is very bready and biscuity, with caramel, and a sweet fruitiness that reminds me of a subdued cross between banana and pineapple. Taste is caramel, moderate bitterness, toasted, biscuity character, with some light raisiny notes. Good mouthfeel, nice length finish. A very well-made, sessionable beer. Between this and the upcoming barrel-aged series, there are some exciting things happening at Schells. bsp77 (724) - Minnesota, USA - SEP 4, 2011
Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Summit multipurpose glass.
Appearance: Clear, darkened orange with thin head and decent lacing for a lager.
Aroma: Very dry, somewhat bitter and tart, with apple, citrus, spice and grass.
Taste: Caramel, apple, toast and hay-like malt body countered by dry German (spicy) and American (citrus) hops. Long lingering bitterness. Doesn’t come together quite as well as I hoped.
Palate: Moderately high carbonation, light to medium body, exceedingly dry.
Overall: While I can see the synthesis of styles (Vienna, Pils, APA), it ultimately tastes like a bitter, slightly citrusy, Vienna. Actually, it somewhat reminds of SA Boston Lager, which is an off-style Vienna. Quite good overall, but I would just rather have SA Boston Lager or Schell’s own true Vienna (FireBrick).

Pours a darker shade of golden with a medium, fluffy, off-white head. Aroma is of yeast, malts, and some grassy hops. Tastes quite yeasty with a heavy malt presence and some earthy, citrus hops. Thin body with medium carbonation and a lightly bitter hop finish. FreshHawk (596) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - DEC 8, 2010
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2010 Bottle.
A - Lighter, crisp tawny color with an average sized, tight foamy, sticky, fluffy, slightly off-white head. Very nice retention with a nice layer of lace left.
S - Bready and grainy malt are strong. Nice hint of citrus hops and a slight sweetish lemony citrus as well. Spicy aroma and a hint of herbal aroma.
T - Similar to the nose with a good bready backbone. Very strong hop presence for the style. Leafy herbal hops along with a strong citrusy hop flavor. Spicy and lemony flavors. Touches of caramel malt. Quite bitter hoppiness on top of a typical lager type taste.
M - Light body with average carbonation. Crisp feel.
D - Pretty easy drinking for this beer. The hoppy kick doesn’t weigh too much on the palate and it is pretty crisp and refreshing.
Notes: Not too bad. Plenty of hoppiness. Nice, crisp, refreshing beer that was easy to drink, but it didn’t really impress me that much. I would get it again, but not one I will regularly get. lovemyipas (544) - nw burbs, Illinois, USA - NOV 25, 2011
pours an amber color with a good off white fluffy head. aroma is toasted malt and a nice piney light citrusy hop aroma. flavor has the same elements but a bit stronger. this is a vienna?! kind of a blend of an apa, vienna, and bitter. i like it though a nice anniversary beer for them.
