COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schell Anniversary Draft Series #5, featuring Hopfenmalz. It is an amalgam of our favorite beer styles: the elegant drinkablity of a Pilsner, the bready maltiness of a Vienna Lager, and the hopping of a Pale Ale. The malt backbone was created using a large amount of Vienna coupled with judicious amounts of Caramunich and Caravienne. In the kettle, we agressively hopped it with Cascade and Tettnang from the Pacific Northwest. Finally, just to ensure we used enough hops, we dry hopped it also. Hopfenmalz was fermented with one of our old world lager yeasts at a higher temperature to add some flavor complexities. Finally, we aged it for six weeks to provide the crispness that is only found in a lager. Prost!

Bottle. Pours a clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted and produced good lacing. Light to moderate sweet balanced aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a moderate bittersweet finish of average duration. Goes well with spicy food.

12 oz. bottle as an extra in a trade with fidelis83- thanks again, Jeremiah! Pours a mostly clear amber with a big off-white head that leaves some light and sloppy lacing in the glass. Aroma of toast, grass, citrus, tea, banana, cardboard, and musk. Flavor of wet leaves, cardboard, grass, tea, citrus, floral hops, caramel malts, and rainwater. Light-bodied, with medium carbonation and a wet, leafy mouthfeel. Not bad, but this one just isn’t doing it for me. Though I have to admit I dig the grandpa beer-style label.

Bottle in hotel room, picked up at a Hy-Vee in Lincoln, NE. Clear, dark gold appearance with an off white head. Sweet creamy, grainy, light citrus, hay aroma. Easy drinking, sweet grassy, lightly herbal, straw flavor. Easy drinking and pretty nice.

Pour on tap at Winterfest 2012, hazy orange with white head, aroma has notes of nice pine and citrusy hops, touch of biscuit as well, but otherwise a bit indescript. Taste is a nice mix of biscuit, toffee, some nice citrus notes, finishing fairly dry and bitter. Pretty nice.

FROTHINGSLOSH (8164) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 30, 2010
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright orange-amber color with a large foamy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was tangy and sweet with moderate notes of lemon, grapefruit, pine and a touch of spruce. The flavor was bitter with notes of caramel, grapefruit and pine with undertones that were nutty and bready. Long tangy and fruity finish. Medium body. Solid.

3.3
CaptainCougar (7634) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JUN 22, 2010
Bottle thanks to nuplastikk: Pours a transparent light copper bronze with a stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly resiny citrusy hops with some doughy malty undertones. Starts with average fullness and a faint sweetness with lots of grassy bittering and flavor hops before a drier crisp finish. Could use a little more sweetness for balance, but overall a pretty clean brew.
