2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Straw color with very thin white head. Extremely faint aroma of malt. Taste is sweet malt with some corn and bread notes. Nothing much to get excited about here.
From old tasting notes. Deep honey gold color. Small bubbly white head. Fragrant malt nose. Fruity malt aroma with hints of cereal grain. Excessively carbonated. Brief malty finish. pkbites (970) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 7, 2017
Average looking corn water pour. Heavy grain presence on the nose and the taste buds. Very dry finish. I always felt Schell beers were all over rated and this is no exception. Very mediocre. Bottle. ronaldtheriot (1976) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - AUG 27, 2015
Schell’s Deer Brand has a thin, white head, almost no lacing, and a clear, straw appearance, with some lazy, ascending bubbles. The aroma is of sweet, somewhat sharp, grain aroma, and the flavor is of grain, some sweet bread, very mild hop bitterness to round out the end of the sip. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Schell’s Deer Brand finishes crisp and easy going. RJT Atom (2556) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - AUG 22, 2015
12oz bottle pours a clear yellow/golden with a large white head. Barley, corn, and dry bitter hop aroma, taste is similar. A simple no thrills drinkable lager. fidelis83 (2496) - Clinton, Iowa, USA - JUL 29, 2015
Crystal clear pale gold pour with a thin, soapy white head. Aroma is toast, dry corn, toasted oily corn germ, lots of grass, and some breadiness. Flavor is toasty corn, yeasty bread, a little apple, saltine cracker, soft water and toasted bread. Light dry entry, medium, spritzy carbonation and dry crisp finish. Pretty good for a pale lager, fairly clean and crisp despite a noticeable corny presence, pretty damn boring though.

Pour out of 12 oz can, clear golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of bread, dough, cereal, some grain, corn. Taste was a mix of grain, bread, corn, slight yeast, finishing slightly sweet, slightly dry. Obfuscate (589) - Minneapolis, - MAY 7, 2015
UPDATED: SEP 12, 2015 In all the years I’ve never tried the original deer brand until this sample pack. About as clear as it gets. When I rate a beer like this it’s about is easy drinking and clean without foul or rank flavors or after tastes. This one does the job well. I prefer it over Premium. For a pale lager it’s very good. Edit: had a few more of these for the style about as good as it gets. deyholla (12021) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 28, 2015
Bottle. Pours a clear pale yellow with a white head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a sweet light grain note with a bit of grass and a hint of corn underlying. Flavor combines light grains and grass with a bit of hay as well as a hint of corn. TXBadger (2811) - Dallas, Texas, USA - JUN 21, 2014
Pours a clear golden color with white head. Cereal grains, some malts, and a little corn on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes pretty clean. BeerKurve (520) - - APR 7, 2014
Pale clear yellow with a thin filmy head that fades fast. Aroma of pale malts, corn, yeasts and barley. Flavor is the same but with a sweeter taste and greater emphasis on flaked corn. Light body with moderate carbonation. Tastes better than it smells.
