Pours a dark amber with a decent size head. Aroma of chocolate, toffee, dark fruit, nuts. Nice balanced flavor, good mouthfeel. bluemooner (657) - East Bethel, Minnesota, USA - DEC 15, 2008
Pours a very deep amber with a medium white head. As the description depicts, this beers somewhat complex flavor includes hints of sourdough, giving a bit of an original flavor for me. Also tastes of malt, chocolate, and a fair amount of hops for medium bitterness. A pretty good beer overall. incutrav (577) - Woodbury, Minnesota, USA - DEC 3, 2008
Quite dark in color. Lots of coco, ultra malty, I didnt taste much in the way of any rye. Slight hint of the hops in there. Another good snowstorm. BustedFlat (554) - Edina, Minnesota, USA - DEC 9, 2008
Deep amber in color. Roast malt aroma. There is a big toasted malt taste up front with some caramel and rye. Some nutty notes as well. Some bitterness as it warms. Another good effort, but I liked last years brew just a tad better.

I thought this was an all around good beer. Not to much of anything. Nice caramel and oat and sweet malt flavor with a just the right amount of bitterness. I can always tell a good one when I have drank the whole glass before Im done rating it.

I can’t beleive I didn’t rate this last winter. To me, the perfect winter lager. Dark and rich and nourishing to the mind and soul. Malt charachter that is so enriching that you don’t think about hops and just sit back and get fat, thinking about spring but still smiling that it is winter and you can still drink this. iamqueensblvd (247) - , Iowa, USA - NOV 10, 2009
possibly one of the first time August shell hasnt disappointed me. Fruity malts on the nose. dark amber pour with nice frothy tan head. Delicious sweet fruit and malt notes from start to finish. Very nice mouth feel and very nice on the palate. trayns (246) - Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA - SEP 9, 2009
Bottle. Skunker alert. Poured a very little head and poor aroma. There is a belgian taste to this fruity and poor palate. There is few redeeming qualities, again. it may be an oxidized bottle. thejoeshow (232) - Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA - DEC 28, 2008
12 oz bottle. Pours a rich brown color with a beige head that has nice retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet malt and a touch of bread. Flavor is bready and malty with a touch of cocoa and spice..? Very rich and tasty. Mouthfeel is a touch grainy but overall very full and smooth. This is a very drinkable, approachable winter beer. The main thing I love about Schell is that they brew a solid beer no matter what style and they have a lot of fun with the Snowstorm every year...and it shows. Well done. grandridge (224) - Port Clinton, Ohio, USA - MAR 17, 2009
Pours an amber brown into glass with a small head. Aroma is malt with bread and grain (lager-like). Flavor isn’t too bad, there is some sweetness in there but mostly bread and grain with some caramel. I thought this brew could be drain pour from the aroma but it’s actually drinkable. Lots of malt flavor in this brew and goes down smooth and refreshing.
