22 oz bottle from Liquor Mart. Dark amber color, beautiful creamy head. Aroma is slightly malty with subtle cherry and vanilla notes. Very smooth flavor with some prominent cherry to it. Very smooth finish with the wine barrel characteristics coming through. This beer is exceptionally subtle in a way that I’ve never experienced before. Wonderfully understated and amazing beer. Dark brown with a faint ring of bone white head in my glass. A malty aroma with a hint of chocolate and a very smooth wine character - not just vinous, but smells like a wine. Cereal grain and chocolate malts in the body and a deliciate red wine character in the finish. Thick and smooth mouthfeel. tennisjoel (1483) - Rochester, Minnesota, USA - MAY 18, 2010
Pour is dark brown with a creamy off white head. I don’t pick up the wine barrels in the aroma, however, I consider the nose of regular Schmaltzs Alt to be very pleasing, as is this. I get caramel, strong nutmeg, cola, and nuts. Flavor brings through the wine barrels. Nice presence of berry added to the regular brew. I’ve always been a fan of this beer stripped down. This is nice too, although I don’t think I’ll regularly be buying this based on the price. CanIHave4Beers (4207) - Pouring Bus, Iowa, USA - JUN 4, 2010
Pours a very pretty deep reddish brown with a medium head leaving some lace. The aroma is fruity and earthy with some oaky wood notes. The flavor is fruity at first with some banana and some dark fruit the beer is just mildly roasty and very dry. There are plenty of earthy notes and the red wine character is there, although I don’t know if I would detect it say if the bottle didn’t say "aged in a red wine barrel" This is very tasty none the less.
If anything this rounds Schmaltz Alt out very nicely and drops the metallic note that can sometimes be mildly off putting in a beer I otherwise love.

650 ml bottle via trade with ncmussell. Thanks Nate. Batch #1. Pours an opaque black color with a small beige head that had fair retention and some minor lacing. The aroma is muted with spices, dust and nutty roasted grains. The flavor is earthy with toffee, sweet roasted malts, vanilla and some dirt. The palate was just a bit lighter than i would prefer, the carbonation is soft. Finishes short and semi sweet. Overall: I was saving this for a tasting, but I have run out of patience, that aside--this brew really hit the spot, very tasty.

Pours a dark brown almost black color with a off white head. Has a malty wine barrel smell to it. Taste is about the same. Reminded me of a dopplebock in a wine barrel. I really liked it. Thanks Tyler! Slick (1969) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - FEB 1, 2011
Very nice brew,Nice redish/brown color, small off white head that had a short hang time then faded leaving little behind.Nice caramel and very mild hint of hops in the background some hints of maybe nuts and very faint fruit i could be wrong i’m still getting over a cold. The flavor was very nice good malt side up front then the barrel ageing comes on with some nice hints of oak and wine the hops seem to have not come to the party. The brew finishes off nicely with a slight malty mildy sweet finish.Over all a very nice atempt from these guys. You can tell there trying but there not quite there yet. wedgie9 (2702) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 8, 2015
Tasted on 1/13/12 from a capped 22oz bomber bottle that I got as an extra in a trade some time earlier. Pours clear, but very deep and dark mahogany with a thick white head that leaves average lace. The nose is vinous red wine, vanilla, some caramel, dusty, and a hint of green hops. The flavor is earthy, vinous barrel, with some dusty caramel malt, and just a touch of green hops. The body is light with average carbonation and a long vinous caramel finish. Trev (2023) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - MAY 23, 2010
dark ruby pour with a medium off white head.
aroma is roasted maltiness. Caramel, slightly nutty , some cherry and berry tones from the wine barrel that come on stronger as the brew warms.
Flavour is toffee, some chocolate maltiness, some woodiness and with definite red wine berry presence and light hint of tannins in the finish.
Quite enjoyable. A good start for the Stag Series.

Pours deep red with off white head, aroma is complex with some nuts, caramel, touch of berry, and a bit of wine. Taste up front is some caramel, nuts, berry, vinous, with a bit of a flat ending. Good brew, but a bit weak at the end.
