COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rather old, rare, and unique German beer style, Kellerbiers are unfiltered and unpasteurized lagers that date back to at least the Middle Ages. The beer is matured, unbunged (beer is exposed), in deep vaults. The final product is a smooth, naturally cloudy beer that’s rich in vitamins (from the yeast). The German answer to British cask-conditioned beer.

On cask. Had a light hoppy character that didn’t mix well with the malt. Unbalanced and under-carbonated. Decent but not great.

ABR 2008. Dry and salty. Cloudy, and pure malt. Very well carbonated. I haven’t had many of this style, but this is similar to the others I have had. A very nice session beer. I love it when Schell’s pulls out these old styles.

Autumn Brew Review 2008. Been wanting to try this for a while. Hazy gold color with a thin head. Light floral hop aroma. Quite a dry grain taste. Lightly hopped with Noble, floral hops. Not as bitter as a Kellerbier usually is, but enjoyable.

Sampled at ABR 07 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pours a semi-hazed golden pale brew with a thin white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of light bready multi-grain malt, a touch of citrus and flowery hops and a touch of sweet yeast. Taste is medium bodied, very light carbonation with flavors of some fruity bread malt, a touch of citrus zest and a touch of yeast. Finish is slightly gritty with a yeast and bready malt aftertaste. Quite interesting!

ABR 2007. Yellow body with light grainy aroma and overall lager like character. Light taste.

[At ABR ’07] Pours cloudy golden with a white head. Aroma is a little weak. Good taste with lots of grains, long finish. Easy to drink. I’d like to be able to drink this again so I could pick out some of the things I probably missed, but overall pretty good.
