Dark amber with a nice head. The aroma has inviting notes of caramel and hops. The flavour is smooth and has notes of roasted malt, caramel, sweetness and it has a moderate bitter finish. MoritzF (9851) - Ottobrunn, GERMANY - SEP 26, 2006
(swing top bottle) Clear, dark amber to copper colour with a fluffy and quite persistent foamy beige head. Dusty, sweet malty, slightly toasty aroma with faint notes of dried fruits and a herbal hoppy touch; also shy notes of metal when its freshly poured. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a smooth carbonation. Softly toasted malty body with light hoppy notes and a shy fruity background. Moderately dry, malty, bitter and herbal hoppy finish. Rather light but somewhat tasty, thus sessionable Dunkel. Skinnyviking (9550) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - AUG 9, 2009
Draught. High creamy and lasting off/white head. Clear brown body. Mild caramel hops aroma. Caramel cocoa flavor with a fair amount of hops bitterness. Beer served in a sort of clay mug that kept the beer wonderfully cool. Low carbonation. Long aftertaste. Erzengel (8619) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - JAN 19, 2014

this was recommended to me at the fabulous ambrosetti biershop in berlin. not a dunkel at all, much more like an alt. very full burnt taste becoes sweeter and caramel and then gets swamped by crisp, fresh Doldenhops. full burnt hay aroma. looks very brown. plenty of trail mix in there, as eczematic would say. a truly unique beer

Bottle, danke Günther. Clear dark chestnut brown, offwhite lace. Light roast aroma. Chewy fruity roast base, broad caramel and berry notes, good roast and hop bitterness to balance. Moreish, quite drinkable. larsga (7508) - Oslo, NORWAY - SEP 7, 2005
Huge, seemingly everlasting head. Mahogany brown body. Aroma faintly sourish (uh?) with hop notes. Taste is subtle, harmonic, and well-rounded, although not too strong. Aftertaste just fades with teasing bitterness notes that last surprisingly long. Reminiscent of many of the Franconian dark lagers I’ve had, but distinctive, and yet not so interesting. In the typically German way the taste grows stronger as you drink. (On tap at Schinner.) Sigmund (7390) - Tau, NORWAY - MAY 1, 2006
500 ml swingtop bottle, under its alias "Das Echte Altbayreuther Braunbier", bought at KaDeWe, Berlin. Reddish brown colour, large and lasting off-white head. Rye bread / bakery aroma, notes of lightly roasted malts and caramel too. Mouthfeel is surprisingly watery, flavour is rather bland and bready, lightly roasted malts with minimal hops. Slightly sourish finish. By all means a drinkable beer, but I expected more flavour than this. BlackHaddock (7232) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 25, 2017
13th May 2017: Hamm Bierbörse. On-tap .3 litre pour. Clear brown pour, thin beige head. Malty throughout with some interesting aromas and flavours, slight singed/smokey notes intertwine with everything too, complex and different: liked it. olsvammel (7216) - Örebro, SWEDEN - OCT 6, 2015
Bottle from a Getränkemarkt in Bamberg. Malty smell with some caramel and toasted rye bread. Similar taste, malty with caramel but not overly sweet. Nice and drinkable.
