this was recommended to me at the fabulous ambrosetti biershop in berlin. not a dunkel at all, much more like an alt. very full burnt taste becoes sweeter and caramel and then gets swamped by crisp, fresh Doldenhops. full burnt hay aroma. looks very brown. plenty of trail mix in there, as eczematic would say. a truly unique beer eczematic (1325) - Adelaide, AUSTRALIA - AUG 27, 2004
Thanks to motelpogo and loni for this one, who thought of me in my beer exile in Australia. Red-brown, clear, nice creamy off-white head. Big nutty malt smell, like freshly baked bread. Smell is as malty as a bock. Taste is quite straightforward - salty, chewy brown bread crusts - but with a surprising level of hop flavour. You can’t taste the hops in themselves that much but they’re definitely there, contributing dryness more than anything else. Very long, nutty, malteser finish with a 25-30IBU sort of bitterness. This reminded me of Mikes Mild strangely enough - big nutty malt taste but dry and light. Simple but wholesome beer. shrubber85 (11460) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - JUL 19, 2008
Tap. Chocolate and brown sugar malt aroma. Dark brown color with moderate head. Smoky chocolate and brown sugar malt flavor. Nice body. A very nice beer. BlackHaddock (7416) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 25, 2017
13th May 2017: Hamm Bierbörse. On-tap .3 litre pour. Clear brown pour, thin beige head. Malty throughout with some interesting aromas and flavours, slight singed/smokey notes intertwine with everything too, complex and different: liked it. hayduke (5550) - Eureka, California, USA - JUL 3, 2006
Had this one in Bayeruth at Schinner’s Brauhaus. It poured a dark brown with red tones. Big off-white head. Nose of clean malts and maybe some chocolae. Medium body. Even though it seems heavy because of its color, when you closed your eyes it was simply heavenly. I really liked this one.

-pours a clear copper-brown with a medium,foamy,offwhite head
-medium to high carbonation visible
-acidic cherry upfront,raisins,slight plums,slight smoke,chocolate,nutty
-medium to high carbonation
-light to medium body
Have to agree with my fellow BA reviewers, this tastes like a decent english brown ale.
Didnt quite care about the acidic note. pivnizub (10672) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - OCT 6, 2008
Bügelverschlußflasche: Clear amber coloured, small, lacy off-white head, lazy carbonation; distinctive sweet dark-malty, nutty nose with a tinge of toasted malt; moderate to to robust sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; a bit drier and more bitter in the toasted-malty finish with the faintest illusions of smoked malt in the very end. Very decent, spicy stuff........... Rasmus40 (21343) - Beder, Aarhus, DENMARK - FEB 15, 2011
Clear orange brown with a large beige head. Aroma is malty, roasted malt, caramel and dusty hops. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Finish is dry and a bit dusty. This feels more like a brown ale than a dunkel, and that’s not a bad thing. 150211 olsvammel (7249) - Örebro, SWEDEN - OCT 6, 2015
Bottle from a Getränkemarkt in Bamberg. Malty smell with some caramel and toasted rye bread. Similar taste, malty with caramel but not overly sweet. Nice and drinkable. culchiem (4023) - Berlin, GERMANY - DEC 30, 2010
Bottle. Reddish brown with an off-white long lasting head. Aroma of toasted malts. Similar flavour with caramel and a nice creamy finish.
