Exploding with hop flavor and aroma, this citrus/piney/floral ale has enough of a malt backbone to stand up to the intense bitterness.

Bottle. Nice shiny pour of bright orange and a light airy head. The aroma is citric and fruity, and the beer drinks with a nice acidic bite. Tangy, crisp, and cloying, this would go great with some nice spicy food. (#4437, 1/8/2011)

Thanks to phaleslu for sending this bottle out my way. Served in a snifter. Pours a clear medium apricot with a two-finger white head. Nice retention and plenty of lacing on the way down. Nose carries some bright citrus notes plus a bit of a tropical character. Nice orange and tangerine to go along with a bit of mango. The hop character isnt as strong in the flavor, but theres a nice bitterness to the finish. Fairly dry after a light body. All around this is very well done.

From the tap at the Bottleworks in St. Louis. Lot of floral and fruit flavors. Smooth and extremely drinkable. Schafllys best beer, hands down. Very good from the bottle as well.

Easily one of the most refreshing ipas Ive tried. Pours bright golden with awesome lacing. I got the citrus, piney, and hops but missed the caramel most talked about. Lovely!

Bottle. Pours a darker yellow with an off white head, leaves lacings all over the glass. Aroma is citrus, grapfruit, hoppy. Taste is much of the same - piney, grapefruit and citrus with some malt and caramel character in the background. Extremely well balanced. Very refreshing. Finishes dry Medium body. Shame this is only available in limited quantities during the summer. Its outstanding.

bottle - Hazy orange pour with a fading off-white head. The aroma is of citrus hops, especially grapefruit. It tastes of citrus with high hops bitterness that lingers pleasantly. This is a good, medium bodied IPA.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2013 Tasted on-tap 9/17/2011 at the Hop in the City Festival in a clean half-pint taster glass. A necessary offering for any American craft-brewer, Schlaflys is nonetheless very good. True-to-style. The Cascade hops make themselves known, but not in a rude way. Judging by its name and overall impression, I suspect this is the same recipe as their Dry-Hopped APA (which is also quite good) minus the dry-hopping. 2/26/2013 UPDATE: I tasted it tonight on cask, dry-hopped with Mosaic hops and its bewilderingly better, so much so I would consider it "a whole nother thing" but alas, this is Ratebeer, so Ill update this entry. Delicious.

12 oz bottle from Mr. Bearded bishop in Tenn. Looks rich and yellow with off white 1 finger head . Smells crisp and with a slight yeasty twang with some sweetness and hops. Tastes pale and bitter at first with more tongue lathering hops. Also with some pineiness and some of that light twang. Pretty darn good ipa at overall of 7 of 10.

12oz bottle from Picks poured into a shaker. Pours a nice golden orange with a good amount of white head. Aroma of citrus and pine with a little sweet caramel malt. Taste is about the same with the caramel really coming through. Medium bitter and lightly sweet. Medium bodied with lively carbonation and a long bitter finish. Overall, very good. I wish I could get it year round but, alas, Ill have to settle for the Dry Hopped APA instead.
