Our Dry Hopped American Pale Ale (APA) is charged with American hops to create a bold, aromatic ale. Assertive hop flavor joins the pine/citrus aroma characteristic of American hops to balance the full body provided by North American malts. After fermentation, the beer circulates through a bed of Cascade and Chinook hops, boosting the distinctive hop aroma of this satisfying ale.

On tap, poured into a sampler at Great American Beer Classic. The aroma is bread with a citrus touch and some mild caramel. It pours a clear caramel color with a thin, light soap head that has a light retention and no lace. Its a medium sweet front with a bitter finish. The beer is oily and flat with a medium body containing bread, caramel and bitter grapefruit near the end. The finish is malty with roast grains that remain in the aftertaste which is mild, waxy, and dry.

12 ounce bottle from a sampler pack. Pours an interesting sediment-particle-filled orange body with a thumbnail of white head that recedes within 30 seconds. Tight, sifting lace. Very clean aroma of resinous hops. The flavor is also clean and well-balanced between piney, floral hops and caramel, bread-like malt backbone. Hints of citrus and just a touch of herb. Medium carbonation and medium/full body. Now THIS is more like it! Much better than their pale ale I just tried.

12 oz bottle dated 1/5/15 poured into a pint glass. I will keep in mind that its slightly old at this point when reviewing. The beer pours a somewhat hazy golden orange with an inch or so of tan head that shrinks down a bit and leaves real nice lacing. Aroma is grassy hops, bready malts mostly. It reminds me more of a pilsner, but than again, the beer is a bit old. On to taste. Right away there is a bit of hop bitterness and bright citrus flavors. They are quickly met with a heavy malt backbone with tons of bread and biscuit notes, as well as some traces of toffee. The beer was easy to drink and I could have a few more. Overall not too bad, especially considering the age.

A score of 91? Mine must be old? Too one-dimensional with lots of hops citrus rind and pine resin and bitterness, but theres no malt character to back it up. Not terrible, like most Schlafly beers, but not exactly good.

A hazed golden amber ale with a thick frothy white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with grassy floral hops, light oxidation, OK. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with citrusy floral hops, pink grapefruit, still solid after a few years.

On tap at Johns Restaurant & Tavern in Winfield, IL., dispensed to a shaker showing a hazed, orangey gold hue, with a meringue-like layer of cream colored head foam, and curtainy cling to the lacing. The aroma was initially cloaked by the persistent froth, but gradually revealed a nose that wasnt altogether fresh, but very dank & stinky, followed by citrus as grapefruit, and some resinous notes. Medium+ bodied, with decent carbonation, the taste also presented some malt sweetness, and like creaminess to the mouthfeel. The hop influence was strong, citrus & rind astringency that lingered well past the empty glass, and a full serving of water. A hearty APA whose bitterness rivaled many DIPAs that Ive sampled.
