My Bottom Line:arminjewell (9676) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JAN 30, 2011
Caramel and chocolate chips lead to a fruity second half in this effervescent Extra Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam tops the brown-edged blackness.
-This doesn’t feel like 8% at all.
-The nose isn’t too exciting for the style.
-Light roastiness is occasionally tasted.
-This was great with steak on the grill.
Pours dark brown/black, off white head. Aroma has notes of roast, some pine, and nice hints of chocolate and coffee. Bit thin on the palate, but has nice roasted, chocolate, and coffee notes, some bread and a slightly piny bitter finish. Pretty good. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 23, 2013
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2016 12oz bottle, bottled 1/03/13. Pours dark brown, with a 1-finger thick brown head. Kind of a hoppy nose, with toasty and chocolate malt, and a sort of metallic smell. Light, but decent lace. Good big predominantly bitter taste. Bittering hops are noticeable in the flavor, but there’s little to no American-style piney / resiny flavor here, barely any earthy hop, even. As far as I can tell, mostly just bittering hops, and it works well here. Nice toasty, lightly roasty malt, light dark chocolate, just a bit of coffee flavors here. Bigger body, with good chewier texture. Light, crisp carbonation. Finish is more on the dry side overall. Impressive stuff. Pretty faithful take, flavor-wise, on an irish dry stout, despite the high ABV. This works. 7/4/7/4/15 blipp (9306) - La Mesa, California, USA - MAR 11, 2011
Update rate, 1/20/16: 12oz bottle. Bottled 12/14/2015. Caramel, dark fruit up front. Kind of spicy. Some chocolate, raisin. Earthy, spicy hop. A lot of spiciness, really. Very dark brown, though mostly clear color. Slight red. Appears mostly dark though. Thin khaki head. Leaves decent lace initially, but quickly fades to just a minimal ring with nothing sticking. Moderate-plus bitter taste. Moderate-plus sweet, kind of a spicy bite to it. Softer-textured moderate strength carbonation. Dry finish. Medium to bigger body, mildly chewy. Didn’t enjoy this nearly as much as I did last time. Sweet maltiness, spicy bite. Disappointed. Didn’t finish.
Draft. Pours near black with a beige head. Roasted malty aroma with light smokey notes. The flavor has lightly roasted malts, some dry nutty sweetness, and a hint of smoke. Not bad. mabel (9246) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 29, 2015
[7573-20150821] Bottle. Grainy sweet toffee aroma. Brown black body with a quick foamy tan head. Sweet toffee caramel wood flavour. Full body is just a little lean. Good. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

Well done for style. Light crisp roast with a hint of chocolate. Pours black with God mocha head and lacing. Light bitter finish. Smooth, with slightly creamy consistency. Taobat Scion. b3shine (8878) - Indiana, USA - MAR 23, 2014
Draft to taster. Looks good for the style; cola with foamy beige head. Smells of dark malt, dark chocolate, and coffee roast with some hop notes as well. Tastes like it smells, but less balanced. Bitter, but not from the hops (it’s more metallic). Average (at best) on the palate. Not bad, but smells better than it tastes. nimbleprop (8384) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - FEB 20, 2012
12oz bottle pours a lightly oily, translucent black with some thin off white head. Nose is malty, nutty, coffee, spiced chocolate cake, coffee grounds. Flavor is sweet, malty, nutty, coffee grounds, spiced cake, chocolate, malty, molasses. Full bodied, dry finish. radagast83 (8074) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - DEC 13, 2012
Draft at Churchkey. Poured a black color with a tan head. Aroma is light roasted malts, some sweetness to it. Touch of dark fruits, but mostly roast malts - relatively refreshing especially for 8%. jackl (8071) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 4, 2014
Keg @ Beer Run. Deep brown with a tight creamy head. Nose is dried coffee and ash. Mocha powder, Oreo cookie wafers. The taste starts bone dry and finishes full and creamy on the palate. Rocky road ice cream. Roasted coffee. Earthy hop bitterness. Simple but satisfying. Medium body, soft carbonation.
