Pours black and is an amped-up version of a traditional dry stout. The addition of both roasted barley and dark crystal malted barley give Extra Stout undertones of chocolate, molasses and dried fruit.

Keg @ Beer Run. Deep brown with a tight creamy head. Nose is dried coffee and ash. Mocha powder, Oreo cookie wafers. The taste starts bone dry and finishes full and creamy on the palate. Rocky road ice cream. Roasted coffee. Earthy hop bitterness. Simple but satisfying. Medium body, soft carbonation.

Bottle. Darkest brown/black pour with a big tan head. Roasted malt aroma with a bit of sweet malt and a hint of alcohol. Sweet malt flavor up front with some booze influence and a dry finish.

Bottle. Licorice and soy aroma. Black, dark brown cream. Molassis, fermented fruit sweetness, roast, licorice, umami. Medium body, a bit fizzy. Dry roast finish. Strong flavors, seems a bit unharmonious.

So dark, rich, and thick with a nice tan head. Flavor is very nice chocolate and coffee. Feel is substantial. This is a very nice stout and one that I will seek out again.

Pours an opaque black with a small, but dense and frothy, wispy-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet, toasty, dark chocolate and caramel malts along with some doughy chestnut character. Starts with a nice viscosity and velvety texture revealing semi-sweet dark caramel and chocolate flavors toward a smooth, lightly roasted bittersweet finish. A nice and true to style foreign stout.

From a 12 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a dark cola with a thick tan head. Toasted malt nose. Flavors of milk chocolate and root beer. Slightly bitter roasty finish.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2012 Aroma is coffee, earthy malts, dark fruit and grains. The flavor is complex malts mixed with dark fruit, with a dry, bitterness mixed with a touch of alcohol in the finish. This is among the most difficult beer styles to find in my area, Guinness is the only other one around that makes this style, so I don’t have much to compare it to, otherwise this was very good on its own.

On tap at Backpocket Brewing. Black appearance with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, bitter chocolate, earthy hops and coffee. Similar flavor, bittersweet, balanced and smooth, adding a touch of dark fruity sweetness. Medium body with a dry feel. Pretty good.
