2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours golden with smallish head but very good lacing. Aroma isn’t much - kind of like dirty socks with earth and wheat. Taste is dirt and malt with some sweetness - finishes better than it starts. This is my first kolsch. It’s drinkable.
12floz bottle, BOD: 09.06.2017, $7 paid for a six-pack, pint glass. Appears a bright light gold with a few bubbles going toward the top to help sustain the off white head. Smells like a mixture of flour and sawdust (a mill floor). Lightly toasted bread flavor and body that finishes crisp, but does after grassy-hay aftertaste. I consider this to be the high bar for the style, which is aided by the fact that I can get it very fresh. Shag (3027) - Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA - AUG 12, 2017
A murky golden color with a white head. The aroma contains some lemons, peaches, bubblegum, and spices. Nice! The flavor is crisp and refreshing with some slightly bitter lemon and apples flavor. Some sweetness is detected in finish. Overall a little more complex and bitter than most of the style. I liked it. oobawa (1586) - Tennessee, USA - JUN 14, 2017
Not sure as to the integrity of this bottle; some prominent Kolsch characteristics, but also a ton of fruity lager esters, green apple and unripe strawberry mixing with the usual light malts and floral hop bitterness. More yeasty and green than bright and grassy. Finishes with a long streak of berries and peaches. close to Grisette-levels of tartness. Pretty, but pretty bad as well. Next time I’ll find a bottle where the dates aren’t mysteriously stripped away. sinfull (1728) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - MAR 1, 2017
Clear, golden color. Medium-sized , white head . Aroma of malt , fruits and hay . Malty taste with some hoppy bitterness at the end.

On tap at World of Beer (Charlottesville, VA). Floral aromas, light berry, light grain. Clear orange-gold with a mostly lasting white head. Mostly dry, a little fruity. Light bodied, very clean.

Not the kölsch you’d expect, but they know that, and it’s still a great beer. It finishes with some lemon tartness, salt, and underripe and grassy strawberries: if you’re curious how a warm lager fermentation affects a beer here you go. Darker than usual but clear enough. Not the most refreshing option but a good adventure. brownaler (692) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - AUG 5, 2016
Faint malt aroma with a small lemon bite in the body. Finish is clean with some orange notes. Frank (4220) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 26, 2016
Hey, another not great beer from Schlafly. Anyone surprised? This one does look nice at least w/ its creamy, big head but aside from that, not much good to say about it. It smells bready and kind of strangely fruity underneath. It does taste pretty clean though, albeit on the heavy and sweet side for the style. Honestly, this is close to be being pretty good but some flaws here and there in an unforgiving style take it down a peg or two. Lemke10 (987) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 10, 2016
This pours a golden amber color with a slight white head. The aroma is slightly fruity but also has an awkward grain smell. The taste is smooth, easy drinking but very light and finishes dry on the tongue. Kind of has a cheap straw/grain taste that I’m sure will turn some people off but then again that’s why Kolsch style beers aren’t too popular. Jow (3983) - New York, New York, USA - JUL 9, 2016
Bottle at this hip new Indian joint in east village. I feel kolsch is nice with curry and there was plenty of curry in the tasting menu I ordered. Fine golden beer with puffy white head. Nose is lightly floral and small hops. Tastes of floral, bread crust, straw, touch of lemon. Easy drinking and refreshing.
