The contrast between the bottle and tap is amazing. I'd give the bottled version a full point lower score b/c of the seemingly drier finish and less rich body. I really enjoyed the texture of the oatmeal from the tap. Almost too drinkable from the bottle.

Bottle in Minnesota, though bought at the brewery in St. Louis. A bit lighter than I would prefer, this brew has a robust roast and slight grapish flavor. Though not a strong beer, it has a redeeming complexity and a smooth ride down the gullet (no gizzard necessary).

Nice black color, small tan head that faded fast.Roasty aroma with a slight hint of smoke, sweet chocolate.Nice roasted taste with a mild chocolate and mild smoke flavor. The after taste is roasty mild chocolate and smoke.kind of a thin feel in the mouth with a slight gritty feel on the palate.Nice brew and a good one to try if you can find it.

On Tap - Medium brown with small tan head, okay lacing, medium-bodied. Sweet caramel aroma is very present, hint of coffee. Smooth and buttery mouthfeel, good balance. Lacks the knockout punch on the palate (a little hop), but overall, a good Oatmeal Stout.

Decent brown color with a good beige head. The aroma was full of chocolate, roasted coffee bean, and slight bitterness. The flavor was much of the same with a more pronounced sweetness. At times the feel was slightly too thin. Good oatmeal stout.

Bottle: Pours a deep black, no detectable floaties, medium creamy head, good lacind, fairly thick, somewhat sweet. Is that bacon I tatste? Good hop balance. All in all, a very enjoyable stout.

Dark cola, just a bit of light shines through when held up to the light. Nose is rich and full, molasses and roasted malts. Taste of cola, burnt roasts, coffee, and syrup.

Thin head initially that disppears quickly; body is quite dark. Quite sweet with caramel and dark chocolate. Not as full of a mouthfeel and developed as I would like.

Silphium (3193) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - MAY 6, 2003
A decent stout, but not very complex or flavorful. Pours a dark ruby (light does pass) with a thin tan head. Little to mention in terms of flavor; there are light roasted tones followed by an almost shy sweetness. Most comparable to the Chicory Stout by Dogfish head in its thin body and inability to challenge the palate. Nonetheless, drinkable.
