bottle-Pours a deep brown, almost black with lots of carbonation. 90% opaque. small tan head that didn't last very long. Huge roasted oat aroma, toffee, coffee, and nuts. good, robust flavor, but thin body. That is somewhat a problem with most oatmeal stouts. Very fizzy with lots of action on the toungue. A good oatmeal stout, but this style is somewhat thin by default. Thanks to MJR for hooking me up with this brew as part of my secret santa present. Good aroma. Taste is slightly burnt and slightly sweet. Hops are balanced, and the body is ok but starts out watery. Finish is good, but could loose the dryness and slight alcohol bite. Good stuff overall. Falconseye8 (542) - Evans, Colorado, USA - OCT 14, 2003
Good but not great. Lots of bitter from start to finish. Of the three Schlafly's I definitely prefer the Pale Ale. Aggie80 (832) - Michigan, USA - OCT 2, 2003
Decent head that faded quickly, nice lacing. Color is a bit light for a stout. Starts off sweet and fades to a bit of coffee. King of a plasticy aftertaste.

This rating was from the Hop In The City event where brews from the previous year were sampled (5 oz) by the attendees from kegs. This brew poured a small head of fine to medium sized light brown colored bubbles that left behind an opaque black colored body with no visible carbonation and a good lacing. It had a mild malt aroma and a smooth palate and a mild coffee lingering finish. The flavor was mostly coffee. Strykzone (7807) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - SEP 8, 2003
Dark and rich and quite good. Schlafly rarely misses the mark. It might be just a bit on the thin side which suits me. fraternie (1031) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 1, 2003
Thin, dark brown body, thin head. Light roasted chocolate aroma. Malt is a bit oatey/chocolate but seems a bit watered down overall. Oats and some chocolate in the finish. Thins out, very little hops. TChrome (1481) - North Richland Hills, Texas, USA - AUG 15, 2003
Made the unfortunate mistake of imbibing a Stone Imperial Stout prior to dringing this fine stout. Suffered by comparison to say the least. Judged on its own merits, however, this is a good stout. Nice aroma of coffee and roasted malt. The beer pours very dark brown with a huge light brown head. There is very heavy lacing and the head is retained throughout. Flavor is nice malt, roasty and palate is much more subtantial than many stouts. Good beer. Beloved Beer (278) - California, USA - AUG 12, 2003
Pretty good. Makes me wish Boulevard would start expanding their variety. Not on par with any of the great Oatmeal Stouts but has a nice sweety maltiness.
