Draft at the Taproom on Locust Street. The Octoberfest poured a clear Amber color with off white head and lacing. The beer aroma was of caramel malts. The balanced beer had a medium bodyw with average carbonation. The finish was smooth with some sweetness.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear copper with a decent off-white head. Mild aroma of malt, caramel, and yeast. Taste is malt, caramel, yeast, and some fruit. Decent.

An amber color with a white head. The aroma smells like Fall no seriously. A lot of caramel, orange, and earthy aromas. The flavor is crisp and slightly malty with a good balance of flavors. Some caramel mixed in with citrus going on here. Some bready notes. Well freaking done on this one!

I rated this blind and was surprised to find it was Schlafly since it was not terrible. It’s slightly lighter than a typical American Oktoberfest w/ a white hed. It’s got a floral hop nose w/ nice nutty/toasty malt charter w/o being sweet. This is a clean and well brewed beer. I’m into it.

Aroma is a little more spicy than other Oktoberfests with a good deal of malt, but the smell should have been stronger - it’s a little weak. Very pretty color and virtually no head to get in the way. Sweet taste, starts out caramel like a traditional Oktoberfest but it has a bad aftertaste. Weird sour corn flavor after the sip. I found myself having to take another drink just to get the aftertaste out of my mouth. Palate is also weak - watery, not thick enough to justify its lack of carbonation. Not a fan. I know it is sacrilege for a St. Louis guy to criticize a Schlafly beer, but I think they could do better than this. Many superior Oktoberfest beers out there.

355ml bottle. Slightly lighter oktoberfest pour. Very clean and basic malty aroma. Very light and unoffensive lager, like their summer lager but a bit bolder.

DATE TASTED: September 12, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Sam Adams lager... OCCASION: Licking the wounds of a 6-0 Division 5 soccer drubbing... APPEARANCE: beautifully effervescent copper body with a sudsy, soapy, creamy head that settles neatly to a tangible ring--a picture-perfect start! Lacing is commensurate with its beer level... AROMA: soft caramel and biscuit, with a buttery suggestion; some iron/rust hints as well... PALATE: smooth, almost swift in its attempt to reach the throat; mildly effervescent, despite its appearance; weak aftertaste; definitely sessionable--almost too much so... TASTE: the caramel is the dominant flavor, though it is understated in comparison to other fests; sweet with the suggestion of apple and pear, odd in the style; some metallic Saaz ping to boot--the profile is an odd mashup...OVERALL: After having heard great things about Schlafly, I am surprised by this offering’s rather askew taste profile; the body is smooth and enticing, but the payoff is a beefed-up macro rinser...
