4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Another very good oatmeal stout. You gotta love everything about this beer.
Tasted on tap at the Bottleworks. It poured a near-opaque dark brown colour, reddish at the edges, with dense beige foam, everlasting with sheets of sticky lace. All the expected delicious oatmeal stout traits (bready, caramelly, toasty, roasty, creamy, silky, balanced bitterness) plus unusual earthy, composty and intensely weedy hop flavours and aromas. By weedy, I don’t mean dank marijuana (like Columbus or Simcoe), I mean actual weeds, like mowing a scrubby lawn with dandelions, chicory, mint, plantain, crabgrass, etc. That sounds odd--and it kinda was--but it really worked with an already complex dark ale. Great stuff, I hope they brew it again soon.
