I stepped up to the bar at St. Louis Brewing Co. and order this baby fresh from the source. The aroma is sweet, slightly citrus yet mellow-malty. Color was rich golden with a white airy head. Palate was neither too clingy or dry. The flavor was magnificent. Well rounded malt peaking around a sublte yet sharp hops and a crisp finish. Bottom line: no complaint=great pilsener. UPDATED: AUG 30, 2003 Brewed and bottled in St. Louis at the new facility ( much better than the contract ones). Pours a golden-straw color, nice fizzy foamy white head that sticks to my glass, light grainy-grassy flowery aroma. Grainy and mild sweetness turns to a hoppy and bitter yet smooth dryness in the finish. Light bodied with a crisp carbonated mouthfeel, very clean and crisp, this is a very good pils. aobecksy (700) - Middle of no where, Ohio, USA - FEB 3, 2003
This is what a beer should be by textbook definition, everything else is just a variety--golden hue, nice head, crisp taste, hoopy undertones. WOW--reminds me of my german friend hofbrauhaus. omhper (25128) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - FEB 7, 2003
Bottled. Pale golden with smallish creamy head. Very nice hop aroma, the saaz hop is evident. Firm and dryish with chewy maltiness and gentle soft mouthfeel. The finish is grassy and bitter. This is a wonderful pilsener, and one of the best North American examples I've tried. raindog (560) - Evansville, Indiana, USA - AUG 12, 2003
Bottle:Deep, golden. Creamy, white, head. Good lace and retention. Aroma is malty, with noticeable hop balanced in.Smooth,creamy,mouthfeel.Great malty flavor and loads of hops. Spicy, grassy hops are all over the finish, but malt lingers forever. Damn good piils! Why I bought a bottle instead of a case????

Gorgeous balance - hopped out to the extreme, almost like prima pils but with far superior handling of the malt interplay throughout the entire experience (both in your mouth and cold to warm) - highly recommended. Snappy, bitter, and sweet all at the same time. Grassy. Some corniness (but not DMSey). beersgood (1) - Festus, Missouri, USA - FEB 12, 2006 does not count
A very refreshing summer beer. It has a clean, crisp mouthfeel and is very quenching. It is easily drinkable. It has a pronounced hop nose and the hops are very present in the finish. I live in St. Louis so there is something to be said about being able to get a beer fresh from the brewery, especially for the lighter lager styles of beer. Still, this is one of the most enjoyable examples of this style that I have found. Braudog (6716) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - MAR 30, 2003
UPDATED: JUL 18, 2007 Cleanly maize and golden. Sticky head with a fruity aroma. Beautifully well balanced. Hoppy-malt. Superb American pilsner. Slick (1969) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - AUG 9, 2003
Very nice straw color, small white head that dissipated quickly but left a slight lacing.Malty, hoppy aroma with a slight citrusy hint. The taste was better then expected malty and fruity with a mild hop presence and the feel was very diffrent then expected as well a bit more full then usual pils i've had.The after taste is slightly citrusy with a mild non over powering hop presence. What a nice brew very well done and very drinkable. smooch (238) - Sylvania, Ohio, USA - MAR 19, 2009
Schlafly Pilsner, must mean good basic beer. This is such a nice smooth drink. After drinking so many of the hefes, lambics, weiss, stout, etc., lately I finally came back to the basics. This one is good all around.
