Sarlacc83 (2287) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 15, 2015
2009 Bottle ordered online from Missouri.
A: Dark mahogany color with a creme colored head that sits and stays. Some lacing - not as much as I’d like from a barleywine.
N: Toffee, caramel, some soy, oak, vanilla, a hint of oxidation, burnt brown sugar, hazelnut and walnut. Toast and some licorice. Hops lend a peppercorn and citrus element - not in an intense amount, but just enough to be noticed.
T: Very sweet, with an oaky bitterness that lends balance without taking down the English barleywine character.
M: Heavy body, creamy carbonation, alcohol is there but restrained.
O: A refined barleywine that has aged very well, (My memory of it as fresh was that it is quite hot and unbalanced). If you have the cellar space, this seems to be one to lay down. solidfunk (8965) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - MAR 13, 2015
Huge oak in this. Bigger than the beer. If you want a glass full of barrel, this is your thing. Or maybe just order a whiskey. Pours reddish amber with ok head and lacing. Finishes with oaky bitterness. A hint of caramelized malt behind the oak. Tap at Scion. cards04 (2813) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - MAR 10, 2015
Pours a nice clear dark amber. Great sweet corn syrup aromas, caramel, vanilla, dried fruit. Beautiful vanilla and oak flavours, sweet and syrupy. Fabulous. One of the best barley wines I’ve had in recent memory. tderoeck (9744) - Gent, BELGIUM - MAR 10, 2015

Large 2011 bottle.
Pours clear dark copper with a decent head.
A faint tart note along with low sweetness, distinguished this from other barleywines in a tasting session.
O: Excellent but not superb in all respects.
