UPDATED: SEP 9, 2014 2014 release.
Glass: Dogfish Head signature glass.
Appearance: Very deep garnet, near opaque, with a soft tan head that forms a soft coating on top.
Aroma: The aroma is fruity of fig with a mild backing of cocoa, earth, and oak, hints of vanilla, coconut and bourbon are noted. Aroma is a bit mild, but pleasant and nicely balanced.
Taste: Figgy intro that runs throughout. A bit of an astringent mid-taste with mildly bitter cocoa throughout. The back-end is woody with some caramel and vanilla and a dash of bourbon on the finish. A bit thin and boozy, but balanced, despite me not loving the profile.
Palate: Medium to thick bodied with soft to moderate carbonation.
Overall: This isnít a bad beer by any means, but itís rather unimpressive in almost every way. A bit hot on the finish and too fruity. Whereís the big malt backing? The price makes this worth buying, but donít expect too much.
