Draft at Meridian Pint. Clear deep reddish briwn, beige head. Aroma of straw on fire. Taste is slightly meaty campfire. Tmoney99 (14987) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 9, 2011
Draft. Poured clear dark brown color with a moderate frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium to heavy smoked malty aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy smoked sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a good smoked brew.

Sample at the brewpub. This homage to the Alaskan benchmark pours a mostly clear dark brown color with some ruby around the edges. Thin sheet of lacing on the glass. The aroma is smoky with touches of roasted malt and chocolate. Medium body with a smoked character that never becomes overbearing, as seems to be an issue with some beers of the style. Flavors of malt, chocolate and nuts are present. The finish is smoky with roasted malt lingering. Pretty good overall. deyholla (12317) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 11, 2010
Sampled on tap at the 2010 Indiana Winterfest. Poured dark brown with a brown head. Aroma had strong roasted malt flavor with an undertone of smokiness. Flavor was more smokey and balanced a bit with the roasted malts. phaleslu (10673) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 20, 2010
Draft sample at Hop in the City 2010. Pours a cloudy brown with ruby tints and a small beige head. Aroma of smoked hickory, roasted barley malts, chocolate, pepper, and earth. Flavor of hickory-smoked pork, roasted barley malts, toasted brown sugar, light pepper, chocolate malts, and peat. Medium-bodied, with a smoky mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Some of the people I came with thought this was too smoky, but I thought it was fairly dialed down. The palate has a lot of incongruent notes going on, but there are a lot of interesting flavors. I’d like to see this again on tap or in bottles sometime soon.

pours black . Smell is smoked, with bacon aspects . Taste is bitter, smoked in the back , rather than upfront . OK , as far as smokebeers go . jackl (8426) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 14, 2015

Enjoyed at the Tap Room. Very dark with a bit of red. Nice creamy tan head that lasted nicely and left a layer of lace. Pleasant and interesting aroma was smoke, coffee, peat, roasted nuts. Flavor is exactly as the aroma. Very nice and tasty. Understated. Well done. Braudog (6841) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - FEB 22, 2006
On tap at the Taproom, 2/18/06: Opaque and black with an off-white head. Little aroma and very little "rauch" to back up the title ... But this is actually a delicious, drinkable porter and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
