Had this on tap at the 3rd Anniversary party. Pours dull orange with a smallish off white head. The aroma has quite a bit of spice to it with cinnamon, nutmeg and clove coming out, some sugary sweetness and a decent amount of bourbon. Not too much bourbon for many, but a bit too much for my tastes. There is some pumpkin veggie aroma as well. Moderate body with fairly soft carbonation. The taste was a muddled version of the aroma with a bit more vanilla to it. Interesting beer, but not down my alley to have very often..... not that I’ll have the chance to have often. phaleslu (10743) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 8, 2010
Draft at the STL Hops 3rd Anniversary Party, upstairs at the Schlafly Tap Room. I didn’t think Schlafly was pouring anything special for this, but this was left over from the Halloween party at the Bottleworks. Pours a clear copper color with a big off-white head. Aroma of toffee, cinnamon, applesauce, nutmeg, vanilla, brown sugar, and caramel malts. The flavor is mostly the same, starting spicy and vegetal and finishing very sweet. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a malty mouthfeel. This has a lot going on, with the barrel and vanilla additions to an already busy pumpkin ale, but it’s very good.
