2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a hazy brown with minimal head with that quickly dissipates leaving no lacing. Tastes of large caramel malt. Very sweet. Hint of herbal hops, but virtually no bitterness. Soda-pop like carbonation. This beer is just too sweet. I’m honestly disappointed.
Bottle. Toast, malt lemonade, bread, caramel. Malty sweet with decent hoppy presence. Medium body, with soft carbonation. Very, very easy to drink, with no alcohol present. Beerhunter111 (23291) - Beerland, GERMANY - APR 15, 2016

Dark copper-brown body, with a big, unstable, frothy, beige head.
Aroma of bread, caramel, sweet fruits, some toast, some metallic notes.
Taste follows this pretty much.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes sweet, bready, a bit toasty.
OK, typical Dunkel. Some nice toast and fruit notes, but too sweet overall. There are much better beers from Schlägl.
Bottle. All the typical characteristics here, as if right out of the style guide. Red-tinged black color with an initial Germanic fizzle of a head. Sweet and roasty, King of Malt indeed. (#5462, 3/15/2014) joergen (29625) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUL 10, 2013

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is dark bread with some caramel malt. Flavor is more caramel malt to start then comes a decent nutty, spicy malt. Finishes leaves a decent malty sweetness on the tounge. Decent dunkel. vyvvy (6858) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - JUL 26, 2012
Pours very dark with a rocky tan head that leaves very quickly. The aroma is bready with pumpernickel, cream, roasted nuts and lager smoothness. Medium lightly sticky body with mild carbonation. The flavor begins with the aroma traits, but is drier and spicier. The finish has light hoppiness and some dark caramel and toffee. Nice dunkel. yespr (48968) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - DEC 7, 2011
From tap at the brewpub. Pours clear and golden deep amber to brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and breadish, bitter and slight metallic. Roasted malty and light bitterness. Ends medium dry and roasted. omhper (25963) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - NOV 29, 2008
Draught at Hopfhaus, Vienna (as Schlägl Dunkles (5.5%). Mahogany colour, rich creamy head. Nutty and lightly roasty. Soft but übersweet. Low in carnonatio with medium body. Sugar screams in my face - all I sense and feel is sweetness - a baklava-like tornado strength honey sweetness that pretty much overturns everything in it’s path. The malt flavour seems carefully carved out, only to be made into rubble by the excessive sweetness. Pretty much a dessert beer to be consumed in very small amounts. It has lots of talent, but doesn’t provide the resulkts expected. Please ferment it out more!
