Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing.
Body is clear medium amber.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted bread/nuts), trace hops (herbs), with notes of compost (coffee grounds, banana peels, dirt, etc.) and dog hair.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Kinda funky nose that most reminds me of a compost pile and wet dog. Not quite as yucky as that sounds, but still weird and certainly not enticing. Very thin and bland in the mouth. Meh. Shaney (2423) - Köln / Cologne, GERMANY - FEB 25, 2013
Dunkelbraunes Landbier mit weißem Schaum. Sehr nussiges Aroma. Im Geschmack brotig-nussig mit leichter Karamellnote. Nicht unbedingt mein Geschmack, da der Malzkörper unterdimensioniert ist, aber aufgrund der Leichtigkeit durchaus süffig geraten. Quack-Duck (9484) - Down South, GERMANY - FEB 14, 2013
bottle from MoritzF! Brown colour, mid-sized off-white head. Shy malty base with a touch of caramel, low sweetness, quite dry. Hints of barnyard in the lingering finish. 3fourths (9331) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 15, 2013
UPDATED: NOV 23, 2014 bottle in novermber 2012, best by date march 2013. clear amber body with a rocky tan-colored head. wonderfully comforting toasted nut-focused nose with layers of nul oils, bread crust, almond and creame pastries and pie crust. as lively as the nose is, the flavor is much quieter. lightly pasty yeast texture, lightly acidic, crunchy and toasty malt, it’s delicious but lack the richness of malt body seen so often in Franconia. still, it’s full enough in the mouth and the soft and creamy carbonation saves it, though it is noticeably watery in the finish and some mild metallic notes make a momentary appearance. it just smells incredible - dark malt nut oil and toasty pleasure.

Re-rate, bottle in November 2014. HUGE matchstick phosphorus off-note in the nose. Malty, tinny, caramelly and toasty in the mouth. Soft, low carbonation. Sweet with low bitterness.
(bottle) Clear, dark amber colour with a big and slightly tanned foamy head. Mildly toasted malty and doughy aroma with notes of caramel, shy bready accents and grassy hops. Moderately sweet flavour with hints of sour dough, rather light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly toasted cara-malty taste, again slightly doughy with grassy and slightly herbal hops in the background; dry and mildly bitter hoppy finish with a tinge of toasted malt. Not the best Dunkel on the planet. 13.XI.12

Red-orange and clear with stable off-white head. Aroma is bready, mild, and fruity. The palate and flavors have some unfortunate butter but nice metallic notes. ganache (5854) - New Jersey, USA - SEP 4, 2012
Bottle by 23.01.13. Malty nose with caramel and faint citrus and grass, and a fainter crackle of biscuit/cracker. Deep amber pour with a creamy, rocky beige head. Light body at times watery, very sweet and malty with caramel and a little brown sugar, some lighter toffee and faint earth. It’s anchored on the sweet side, but balance here isn’t all that necessary. More of a Dunkel. adnielsen (10605) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JUN 30, 2012
Bottle @ Mega Bavarian Beer Tasting. Hazy, dark orange/brown appearance with an off white head. A bit bready, nutty, cracker/caramel aroma. A bit buttery, rich toffee, fairly light bodied, caramel/grassy flavor. Ehhh. downender (8584) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - JUL 23, 2011
Bottle from Landbierparadies. Amber coloured with a slight white head. Bready malts, some apricot fruit and touch of chocolate, leading to a bitter finish. Good.
