Doppelbock Dunkel has a pleasant full and creamy body, with coffeeish aroma. Nicely warming with toffeelike malty sweetness, balanced by a hoppy-bitterness in the finish.

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2013 Pours a crystal clear amber with white head. Aroma of malt . Taste of coffee, malt, and carmel. Palate is fairly smooth and drinkable. Had a previous bottle that was a bit skunky, but this one was good. Overall, not a bad doppelbock. Thumbs up.

Ernest (7862) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 10, 2017
Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain/nuts, espresso), with notes of nut shells. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, soft carbonation, moderately alcoholic.

Almost more like an "imperial Schwarzbier"...very roasty and not quite as thick and sweet as most Doppelbocks. Forgettable, but decent.

Jabic (713) - Plainfield, Vermont, USA - DEC 1, 2017
Ar: Bread and brandy; a deep and elegant toasted maltiness; very clean fermentation profile. Ap: Deep chestnut brown; clear; medium-small tan head with moderate-low retention, settles into a medium-small but solid cap of foam with slightly edging sides. T: Very rich, caramel layered on thick; clean dark cherry and vanilla; sweetness is medium-high; bitterness is low, rounded out by the alcohol; no hop flavor; a little maple; finish is smooth and profoundly caramel sweet yet somehow not cloying. P: Full body with medium-high carbonation; silky smooth; finish is medium-sweet. O: This is the definition of richness; clean, malty, and well-fermented; exceptionally lush and expressively malty; caramel, but in a very complex, deep sense.

330 ml. bottle @ home. BBF 04.2018. Very dark brown, ruby hue some deep mocha bubbles. Nose is massively cloying Christmas spices, sweet wood, herbal syrup, Christmas cake, pudding more massive DE herbal cloying sweetness. Taste is herbal sweet wood, cloves, low cinnamon, cardamom, Christmas spices, tastes like a cloying cabinet of sweet spices, cooked apple, herbal almost medicinal DE body, oily slick caramel cooked apple, herbal, thick caramel, oily, walnut oil. Massive. Bitter bark, oak. Not fully my thing but fascinating massive classical exercise that is quite brilliant in its own fashion. Old school stuff, I dig it.

Bottle from de Caigny in Essen, Belgium. The beer is very dark brown to black colored and has a small and little unstable creamy head, with good carbonation.
The aroma is malty, with notes of caramel, roasted malts, dark fruits and a little smoke and chocolate.
The taste is full bodied with a sweetness with caramel and dried fruits. Near the end a light bitterness is noticable with some spicy and warming alcohol and some roasted and chocolate notes.
The finish is light bitter with some warming alcohol and is long noticable.
A little to sweet for me, but still I found it an enjoyable beer.

Meget vinøes og næsten ingen bitterhed. Sødmen passer fint til stilen.......

Donkerbruin bier zonder schuim. Smaak is zoet en fruitig met iets van rozijn, bramen en kersen. Een lichte koffie smaak is eveneens aanwezig. Mooie combinatie.

Nice looking beer. Very dark brown with an inch of slightly off white foam. Minimal lacing.

Smells of toffee, bread, dark fruits. It’s not all sweet. There’s more than a hint of bitterness.

The taste is bready, has toffee with some mild pitted fruit, kinda sweet but not when compared to the brewer’ s other offerings. To me, this is sort of bland.

Medium body, fairly light carbonation, feeling all of the 8.5% abv.

Not my favourite from this brewery.

Cerveza color ámbar rojizo con aromas a maltas y notas dulces. De consistencia semi-espera. Al paladar se perciben notas a maltas tostadas con final acaramelado. Muy agradable cerveza. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
