A traditional bock-beer-speciality of Castle Eggenberg. This beer is brewed only seasonally and therefore available during Christmas and Easter holidays. Careful and slow fermentation and maturation make Festbock a desired beer not only in Austria but also in Italy, where it is exported in 30 lt. kegs.

joergen (28148) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUN 12, 2005
Bottled. Clear yellow coloured with a white head. Malty aroma with hoppy notes. Malty flavour with a bit sweetness and notes of metal and hops. Disappointing.

TBone (17544) - Pori, FINLAND - JUN 9, 2005
Bottled (BB 01/2006)
Golden color with quickly vanishing off-white head. Malty, buttery, industrial aroma. Good malty body with sticky alcohol which fits to bock nicely. Soft mouthfeel rounded with honey sweetness. Enjoyable warming bock, except aroma which is more like in pale lager.

sayravai (4710) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUN 4, 2005
(Bottled) Clear, pale golden color with a large, white, soapy-bubbly and lacy head. Mild, sweet-malty aroma with honey hints. Richly malty, sweetish toffee-buttery flavor with alcohol and honey hints. Medium to full-bodied, smooth and warming, slicky-sweet, low-carbonated palate. A nice, smooth and warming bock. Nothing more - nothing less.

ante (3373) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JUN 4, 2005
Golden, large dense white foam. Big aroma of dense pale malts, grass and fresh baked bread. Full malty flavour of grass, bread and nuts. Long malty finish.

Cobra (1100) - - MAY 1, 2005
17 oz. brown, tall bottle. Freshness date of 02/2006 on back label. Still fairly fresh then. Apparently people don’t appreciate what it takes to brew a beer of this magnitude, judging by the low scores it has received. It is right exactly on the money, style wise. Poured out a bright, pale yellow color, with a frothy, sticky white head. Aromas are of fresh Pils malts, with some DMS from those malts. Slight, background earthy hops, but aromas are very subdued. Some aromas of Vienna malts as well. Thick mouthfeel, but actually a thin beer. Malty to a fault, followed by strong hop bitterness. Rich, earthy, and superb overall. You should really try to appreciate it for what it is. A world class Maibock.

pilsnerrogge (2948) - Finspång, SWEDEN - APR 19, 2005
Golden coloured with a frothy head. Malty aroma with notes of boiled vegetables. Sweet-ish malty flavour, slightly thin and metallic. The alcohol tickles the tongue.

bark (255) - Linköping, SWEDEN - MAR 22, 2005
Bottle. The colour is clear yellow; the white head is compact and three fingers thick.

The smell is a bit weak and there are fine notes of some malt and dry bitter hops.

The carbonation is OK for a lager with fresh small bubbled. However, it is rather short.

The first taste is one of sweet malt, some body and some bitterness in the background. It develops into a vanilla-like soft flavour with some alcohol and a growing clean bitterness. The aftertaste is sweet and warming with notes of white bread and a long lasting (rather anonymous) bitterness.

This is a good representative of this style with the alcohol well hidden behind the strong malty flavour.

larsniclas (7075) - Billdal, SWEDEN - MAR 13, 2005
Bottled. Golden with a large, white head. Sweet, malty nose with some metallic notes. A bit too much alco-feel to be in my taste, but rather fresh with fine maltiness.

rlgk (18850) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - MAR 12, 2005
Golden/yellow, white head. Dry hoppy nose along with marcipan, malts and apples. Quite smooth at first. malty and hoppy with fruity notes, Alcohol well hidden but shows in the finish along with a pleasant but somewhat weak bitterness...

rickgordon (3878) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - MAR 12, 2005
Bottled. Golden colour, good, almost creamy, head. German Style Pils nose, along with grain, eggs and hops. Rich malty, clean flavour, pure grain. Like a maltier pilsner. Vague bitterness.
