The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

2014/01/20 - Pours a clear ruby-amber colour with a one finger, off white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is caramel, brown sugar, alcohol and dark fruits (plums and raisins). Taste is brown sugar, caramel and with port and booze aftertaste. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky with smooth carbonation and a boozy warming finish. On the edge of being too sweet. Will have to cellar one and try it in a year or two to see if it mellows out. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2017 2015 bottle bought in 2016, consumed 2017. Delicious. Smooth, wonderfully boozy, rich and raisiny, caramel notes. Terrific sipper. Great stuff. Best not to drink too cold; the flavors really open up as it loses its chill.

Helder lichbruin bier zonder schuim.

The aroma is woodsy, nutty and a bit of roasted caramel sweetness. The body is a clear dark brownish red with only a bubbly head to start but fades quick. The taste is a rich roasted woodsy nuttiness with molasses sweetness. The boldness warms your palate on the way down. Delicious.

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2017 06-12-2017 // 2014 Version. So exactly 3 years old when enjoyed. Thanks to werckmeister! HoHoHo! 3 years old now and tasting awesome. Browny beer. Sweet malty, woody nose. Lovely complex taste. Dominantly sweet with brown sugar. Boozyness well hidden. Slighlty creamy, smooth mouthfeel. Long lasting finish. Great treat!

0.33 l bottle from 'Bierbörse' (Schwelm), bottled in 2014, best before May 2019, cellared for over three years. This beer has either not been aged for ten months or not been brewed on 6 December as I purchased this one already in August 2014. Clear, dark brownish red with a beige layer. Sweetish-malty, boozy and a bit fruity aroma of molasses, port, raisins, prunes, rhum and some bourbon. Very sweet, malty, slightly fruity taste of molasses, raisins, prunes, port, bourbon and some marzipan, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, quite warming but only slightly boozy finish. Full body, oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Tastes a lot less boozy than it smells, it's actually very enjoyable. Quite complex, moreish and a bit heavy as well, overall a really nice, slow sipper.

2014 Vintage Bottle at home, bought from Biervana, drank on the brew date, 3 days on, 6th December 17. Pours a copper colour, no head. Aroma is prune, dark fruit, some booze. Taste is prune juice, sweet, bitter caramel, dark fruit, raisins, booze, but drinks below the 14%. Great beer, more of a barley wine than anything else.
