The beer in the glass is ruby red with flat, short-lived head. It smells malty-roasted, subtly bitter and slightly raisiny. Starts with subtle toasty aromas, sweet malt notes, in the background slightly bready. The middle part is malty-bitter, very roasty and bready with some caramel. Goes into a malty-bready finish, with sweet grain notes, caramel and roasted malts!

Cellar clean-up. Bottled, probably gift from my mother. BB Dec 2012. Clear brown colored, small off-white head. Beautiful strong nose of roasted malts, caramel, molasses, raisins reminded me of Christoffel Wijs. Sweet malty flavor, caramel, some iron, thin bodied. Past its prime, but still quite nice, especially in aroma. Bierkrug (2129) - - AUG 12, 2010

Das Chiemgauer Urdunkel, ist ein super gutes Bier. Voll im Geschmack, leucht dunkel, nicht malzig, gar nicht herb. Das Steiner Urdunkel, ist ein Bier zum Wohlfühlen
