Bottle. Dark pour with no head. Rich dark roasted malt, chocolate with a nice smokiness in the taste and aroma. superspak (5603) - Michigan, USA - SEP 14, 2015
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. This was highly over carbonated when I opened it, so it took a while to pour initially. I let most of the extra carbonation diffuse out by swirling in the glass. Zero notes of any infection. Pours dense pitch black color with a 2-3 finger dense and rocky dark brown head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, floral, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, floral, and roasted earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, moderately silky, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice American stout. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering. edgallow (4211) - nashville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 11, 2014
12 oz bottle pours black with a tan head. Aroma of malts, coffee, grain and chocolate. Taste is roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Frank (4195) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 1, 2014
Hey, a decent beer from Schmohz! This is cause for celebration! This is a deep black beer w/ a small head of fine white bubbles and little spots of lace. It smells mildly roasty w/ a bit of nutty, toasted malt. This is quite dry w/ a bitter coffee and chocolate-like taste. This not heavy on the palate but still full bodied w/ fine carbonation. It finishes clean w/ some lingering roast and firm bitterness. This reminds me somewhat of Founder’s Porter, which is a great beer. This is maybe not up to that level but far and away the best beer I’ve had from this brewery. ICEatALAMO (1350) - Troy, Michigan, USA - JUL 16, 2014
Bottle. The pour is black with a thick full head. The aroma is full of malt, robust. The taste is big malt. Hops are balanced, but a bit of bitterness. A solid stout.

Robust stout with lots of roasted malt bitterness, and little sweetness. Pitch black color with average head and rich body. Best that I have had from this brewery. Alextricity (509) - Michigan, USA - MAR 25, 2014
$5 (?) bottle from Three Blind Mice in Mt. Clemens, Michigan.
Appearance: A nice black color with a slight head on it. Opaque, with sediment stuck to the bottom of the bottle after pouring.
Smell: Roast. Mostly coffee. Maybe some chocolate, but very little. Relatively one-note.
Taste/feel: Surprised at the 77 rating on this site, but I guess it’s because it almost just tastes like coffee. A bunch of roast, no noticeable hop presence, maybe a slight hint of chocolate? Reasonably bitter aftertaste. Body isn’t too thick, so you could drink a couple of these and be fine.
Not all that interesting, but it tastes pretty nice to me. I’d try it again. njager246 (697) - grand rapids, Michigan, USA - MAR 1, 2014
On tap at schmoz.. Aroma is roasted malts... just a lot of malt in this.... fine, but that is it Onslow (1496) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - OCT 18, 2013
Pour from a 12 oz bottle from HOrrocks in GR. Inky black brew with frothy tan head that leaves sticky lacking all over the inside of the glass. Great aroma of burnt grains, roasted grain, coffee... Taste is burnt grain at the start, a little sweet but quickly transitioning to dry coffee / chocolate taste. Bittering appears at the very end. Palate strikes a perfect balance between satisfying but not cloying. Overall an excellent brew. koleminer20 (3599) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - SEP 9, 2013
12 oz bottle. Pours a nice black with a thin, quick-fading darker tan head, and no lacing. The aroma is coffee and roast, not over bearing and what I'm looking for in a normal stout. There are hints of chocolate. The taste is roast heavy on the front end, that fades into the coffee and eventually into a dry chocolate finish. It's a little drier than I'd like, and leaves an aftertaste that would rival most dry cigars
