Dark mahogany beer with a foamy brown head. Nose of alcohol, roasted grains and coffee. Flavors of black strap molasses, bitter chocolate, some burnt toast, apple fruitiness and noticeable alcohol. There is a strong bitterness with a finish like old coffee grounds. jkwalking05 (4735) - Arlington, Texas, USA - APR 13, 2012
Deep brown with a small tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, coffee, toffee, and chocolate. Taste is roasted with some chocolate, caramel and brown sugar. BigBeer45 (1532) - Michigan, USA - JAN 19, 2012
Bottle, label lists 9.2% alc.,
this ale had a dark brown pour that revealed ruby at the bottom of the glass when held to a light, the pour made a one finger light tan colored head, the effervescence was hard to see except at the bottom of the glass when held to a light, then, I saw some spare bubbles flowing here and there, and there was a small stream at the center of the glass, this beer left spots and small fingers of lacing on the sides of the glass, the bottom of the bottle was covered with a dark layer of sediment,
it was malty, aromas of roasted malt, bread, faint chocolate, caramel, faint raisin dark fruit in the background, hint of molasses with bread and caramel sweetness, some alcohol notes and nut appear as it warms,
the flavors were roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, and molasses, licorice/anise show up as this ale warms,
there was not much sweetness on the tongue, this drink not as sweet as I thought it would be,
mouth feel was medium, may be a touch more, and felt a little creamy on the palate,
a nice Old Ale, the alcohol was hidden well, and this drink is better at warmer temperatures.

Pours a clean burnt copper with one finger of dark tan head. Very nice nose, rich and caramelly with notes of raisin and prune. Awesome dextrinous sweet malt character. Light showing of alcohol. Flavor isn’t quite the same, get some oxidized hops in there. Some toasted cereal grain and rich chocolaty malt. Slight astringency and noticeable bitterness. polomagnifico (1202) - Saginaw, Michigan, USA - DEC 15, 2011
Bottle. Aroma has notes of roasted and toasted malts, caramel, toast, coffee, resin hops, wood, dark dried fruits and vanilla. Very dark brown hue that sits very dark ruby brown/black in the glass with a small off-white head that left no lace. Flavor is very sweet and heavy bitter. Palate very full bodied, oily with average carbonation. Overall I was quite surprised with this brew after reading the reviews. I loved the aroma and taste and everything else was average at least. A good one.
