Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours with a large tan head over a deep brown body. Aroma of coffee, caramel, toffee, and leather. Taste is coffee, chocolate, spice, nutshells and a touch sour (maybe?). Creamy bubbles, and a dry finish. WakeandBake (549) - Greenville, Michigan, USA - JAN 31, 2010
Bottle . A very dark brown to black color pour with a thin lasting tan cap , spotty lacing left , lots of tiny carbonation bubbles . Aroma of bitter chocolate , fruity hops , some malty caramel and maybe light toffee notes , slightly nutty. Flavor is like a cola/coffe mix with some sweetness left on your lips , mild bitterness , but lacking the huge sweetness of other Old Ales , nutty , with a plum type finish and some lingering alcohol notes . Light body for the style , slightly oily texture , quite drinkable , but watch out it sneeks up on you after 3 or 4 bottles eh.
It is hard to rate this as an Old Ale , Im on my 3rd 6 pack of it now and I find it to be a really good dark ale or maybe a brown with a high ABV for around $11 , call it what you want im buying it again . Thank you Schmohz bigtaster (1038) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - APR 17, 2009
On tap @ brewpub. Dark brown with off white head. Nice aroma of some spice, toffee, caramel. The flavor follows with a relatively light body that makes drinkable. Enjoyable. esjaygee (3902) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 19, 2009
On tap at Schmohz Brewing Company. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, spice and very mild fruit. Taste of caramel, roasted malt, alcohol, light fruit and chocolate. Finishes up with a bit of malt bitterness. Not too bad. On a side note, 28th street in Grand Rapids is interesting – two brewpubs and five beer stores entered in on rate beer within a handful of miles of one another.
