A light malt based ale using ginger rather than hops as the preservative. Dare to get unhopped and try the energizing elixir.

tectactoe (3125) - Michigan, USA - APR 5, 2015
UPDATED: APR 6, 2015 Bottle: Super volatile pour; a huge, chunky, crackling white foam grows atop a slightly hazy, burnt amber colored beer. Smells like raw ginger root mixed with an old, musky cotton blanket. Very dusty in the aroma. Maybe a hint of apple, too. Lots of ginger in the flavor, but it’s very vapid & calm, with only a small hint of accompanying spice. Other than that, there isn’t much to the flavor. Perhaps a touch of dried, grainy malt & some apple. Weird metallic off-flavor. Mouth feel way over carbonated. This beer is shite city.

12oz bottle, thanks to tmoney99 for sharing. Hazy murky darker orange brown color. Thin off-white head, few loose dots of lace. Really interesting ginger bready aroma in the nose. Strange, interesting herbal flavor. Ginger root, something like nutmeg and cinnamon. Moderate sweet taste, kind of tangy, lightly tart. Hints of oxidization, no idea how old it is, but it’s not too bad. Medium body. Lighter carbonation, kind of dry finish. Really interesting stuff. Cool gingery nose. Could be pretty refreshing in the heat.

12 oz bottle shared by dudeabide. Pours a hazy brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, ginger, a fruity characte, some oxidation notes, thinner, I think this is a new brewery for me.

Terrible minute ginger taste which replaced all hops. Doubt that this was even a beer except for the water, malt and yeast!

Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - JAN 18, 2014
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate ginger, light citrus, and a hint of smoke. It pours a hazy dull orange with a one finger off-white head. There is minimal lacing. The flavor starts with a quick dose of citrus than quickly turns to lightly sour lemon. The finish has light-moderate ginger, herbal notes, plastic, and faint grass. It’s light-medium bodied with lively carbonation that is a bit prickly. Overall, this is a pretty strange beer.

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazed light amber with a white head. Candied ginger aroma. Flavor mixes biscuity malts with ginger and some sweetness. Aroma’s better than the flavor here.

Tap. Golden with small head. Lightly tart with ginger. Can’t believe this is a schmohz. Not bad. Way better than the mt pleasant gruit, but that’s not saying much. Gruits are strange.

Bottle, label reads 5.3% alc.,
this ale had a hazy (from the sediment in the bottle) dark red pour and made a initial one finger off-white head that receded to a partial cover and ring, it left little spots and fingers of lacing that rolled off, the bottom of the bottle was covered with a layer of dark brown sediment,

this beer had aromas of faint ginger, toasted malt, bread and caramel, while it had a bigger vegetable and some other foul aroma intertwined,

it had flavors of dull toasted malt, faint bread, no vegetable like the aroma but it was not a pleasure to drink,
the finish had a little bite from the ginger, there was a little bit of an off taste but it was not as offensive as the nose,

the mouth feel was light, the carbonation was average to lively on the palate,

the nose of this beer was not good at all, it was hard to sniff and enjoy, the flavor was dull and not that nice.

12oz bottle. Rating #15. Strange stuff, not a fan of the lack of hops, it seemed very watered down. (2510)

The was sent to me by Strykzone in a trade. I read the information in the fine print on the side of the bottle and wondered, ginger instead of hops? Pours the color of cider, with no head. Nose is sour. Body light and mouthfeel watery. The flavor is much like ginger ale and there is a sour dry finish. Interesting, but not particularly good.
