COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Note: Known as German Lager in the US.

Maker: Privat-Brauerei Schmucker, Mossautal, Germany *** Beer: Schmucker Privat Export (bottled, 500ml) *** Style: Dortmunder Helles *** ALC.VOL.: 5.2% *** "A quaffable, malt-dominated beer with muted bitterness and a subtle hop flavour." [brewery note, my translation] *** Colour: Bright golden yellow, clear, with a big, frothy white head. *** Nose: Barley, a hint of vanilla, butter, straw. *** Texture: Medium body, not too watery, modest carbonation. *** Taste: Buttery opening, with clear barley malt, a hint of citrus, but surprisingly bitter considering the brewery’s own notes. Slightly increased bitterness even towards the middle, with hops and herbs over malted grain. Bitterness evaporates in the finish in favor of bready malts, some hops, and a wee bit of lemon. Aftertaste is grain, mild bitterness. *** Impressions: Refreshing and quaffable German lager in the "Export" style (i.e. maltier and with a slightly higher ABV than most Pilseners). Not bad for an "industry brew", a solid session beer.

Na, das kann man schon ganz gut trinken, aber eine Offenbarung wird es natürlich nicht sein können. Leicht an Vanille, etwas Getreide, ein bisschen Butter und Malz = ganz nett eben.

McTapps (6984) - Reutlingen, GERMANY - MAR 30, 2015
Bottle as "Schmucker Privat Export", bought at IxI Getränkemarkt in Frankfurt. The beer has got a clear deep golden colour with a low head and medium body. Aroma of hops and straw. Taste of hops, bread, straw, flowers and mild fruits. Hints of honey and herbs. Easy drinkable, refreshing.

Listigovers (1383) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 8, 2015
Golden and nice looking beer, not too much aroma and white head. Taste is basic but good and the body is a bit heavier and maltier than expected and ends up being hearty and good.

Bottle from Maruhn. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and moderate hoppy - straw. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and light bitter finish. 101114

bartlebier (4214) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - JUL 5, 2014
50cl bb05/2014. Pours, drinks and tastes just like your standard DE Export in every way: less hop profile, natural enough malt and fresh barley aromatics coming to the fore, very clean yet not crisp. Still the preferable offering to their Pils, very true to the dated Export style.
