Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Bottle dated 2008. Pours a dark, clear brown with yeast floaties and a thick tan head that quick disappears to a slight ring around the glass. Aroma of wheat malts, dried fruits (raisins, prunes, bananas), and alcohol. Taste is no surprise with a bit of sweetness and roasted malt thrown in. Mouthfeel is slightly creamy with a pleasant aftertaste that I find hard to describe. Overall a very heavy body with a lot of complexity.

Iphonephan (7186) - Jackson Hole/McLean, Virginia, USA - OCT 13, 2017
From a 33 cl bottle. Pours a clear amber with an ecru head. Aromas of caramel, toffee and candi sugar. Heavy sweet flavor with a smooth, warming finish.

Etalon!

Bottle. Dark brown, hazy with medium, frothy but not very stable head. Strong and intense aromas if dried fruits, malts, red wine, cloves and dark bread. Taste is sweet with red fruits but also typical for weizen flavors, surprisingly dry but still with pleasant, oily mouthfeel. Very well balanced with just a bit alcohol warming in the finish. Very good!

Bottle from Brewers Droop, Bristol. Huge head, brown/ruby colour, lightly hazy. Aroma: roasted malts, bananas, raspberries. Lightly bitter, full body, thick, oily, average carbonation. Wow! Really nice.

WTF?! Malinowe, ciasteczkowo-herbatnikowe. Herbata. Owoce kandyzowane. Baaardzo slodkie. Malo piwne. Nie pasuje tu to dosc wysokie wysycenie. Paskudny napój alkoholowy.

kluczbork (500) - Wroclaw, POLAND - SEP 4, 2017
Bottle. Aroma- mega-intensive sweet plums, some spiciness, bubblegum and dark bread notes. Brown, a bit hazy, with a medium, creamy head. Taste- bready notes are stronger, then come plums and subtle caramel with bubblegum- everything well-balanced, but complex. Full-bodied, semi-sweet, with a medium carbonation. No alcohol feeling at all. Great beer.

VueltaBirrista (129) - Murcia, SPAIN - SEP 4, 2017
