My first and problably last weizen bock. Too sweet for my likings. Lots of clove and banana. Just like a Hefe but with some caramel malts and a touch of roastiness. Too much sweetness in the finish too. A bit cloying and syrupy, but it got high points for aroma and appearance. Huge head and a nice purple brownish body.

I was expecting something a bit stronger, clovy aroma reminding me a lot of Franziskaner Dunkel. Fruity and malty. Sweet, fruity with a nice bitter finish on the tongue. Very nice, but didnt live up to the hype

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a ton (and I mean a ton) of carbonation. I had to pour this into my dimpled mug in shifts. The aroma has hints of fruit, with a really sweet tang. The flavor is interesting. Initially sweet with a nice bitter finish. This beer kept improving the closer to room temperature it got to. Nice yeast flavoring, and excellent choice of malts. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer.

Pours murky brown with large head, which diminishes quickly without lacing. Sweet malty smell with some alcohol present, as well as fruit (banana/apple), certainly the cloves, and yeast. Flavor is what I would imagine a dunkelweizen/barleywine/dubbel concoction to taste like. Yeasty bread, sweet caramel, some banana, apparent alcohol, raisins. Perhaps my bottle is old, but Im not getting much bitterness in the finish, which makes it seem a little less balanced than it could be. Towards the end of the bottle, the carbonation drops considerably which seemed to highlight the sweetness and further imbalance the beer. I would probably choose this as a get-drunk-quickly beer, if I wanted to do so, because for 8%, it is very drinkable.

Dark, chocolaty taste. Very scrumptious, but generally a little sweeter than I prefer my beer to be. Extremely smooth with a great finish.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2007 Despite the 8%abv, there is absolutely no astrigency. The flavors are of malt, caramel, banana, and slight coffee, chocolate and fruit. This beer is so smooth and well balanced that you can easily drink a pint in a few large gulps. However, the majesty of Aventinus is only appreciated by the winding journey through its complex flavors. Im shocked and disturbed by the Danes who posted reveiws in the 2s - but mostly im sad for the land of Denmark that they alone are denied the supreme enjoyment of this highly and (I still believe) easily appreciable weizen bock. Re-Rate: From 16.7 oz. bottle - More raisn flavor less caramel, and unfortunately some astringency. A little whiskey on the nose. Bottle Score - 4.0

Magnificent beer, reminds me more of an abt/quadrupel than a weizen bock. Commercial description is very accurate. However (to the beers benefit), it finishes with various flavors and a strong punch.
