I am tasting this with a friend side by side with the Flying Dog Wild Dog Weizenbock... The Aventinus Weizen Bock is a murky chocolate brown color. Mild carbonation with a huge foamy light head that dissapates quickly. Lively carbonation. Aroma is wheat, clove, plum, and banana nut. Flavor similar to the aroma - banana nut, alcohol, and lots of fruit. There is a lot of alcohol to this one - I can feel it evaporating through my nostils! The mouthfeel is medium to full, but strangely fizzy. Overall the aroma is much fruitier; the flavor is more wheaty, and the alcohol is much more pronounced than the Flying Dog Weizenbock. I hate say it, but I think that the Flying Dog Wild Dog Weizenbock is more complex and better all around. 500 mL bottle, $3.69 from Jungle Jims (brought by Terry).

We did a Vertical Pairing with the 2001. The beer was ruby in color. Pure white head. Slight berry aroma. All the characteristics of a DUNKELWEISS, very distinctive. Doesnt seem like a BOCK. lots of fruit. Berry, wheat and Mixed Berry. Slight malt in the distance. lots of spice: cinnamon clove nutmeg. This one needs to be aged!

UPDATED: APR 14, 2009 Pours hazy yellowish/brown with small tan head. Aroma mostly of wheat, bananas, spice, and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is basically the same as the aroma with a hint of chocolate. Medium bodied, finishes slightly bitter on the palate, with good carbonation.

Fruit salad in a bottle. Well, maybe not the rockmelon. Beautiful colour. The subtle apple flavours and strong berry flavours combine well with standard banana. A bit nutty as well methinks. Pretty sticky, pretty alcoholic. All around delicious.

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2012 Bottle. A hazy medium to dark brown beer, with a large, frothy, mostly lasting off-white head. The aroma is moderately to heavily malty (toasted grain, roasted bread, hint of caramel), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs), withy notes of toffee, plums, dark fruits, figs. clove, banana, hint of gum. The flavor is heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium to full body, velvety/sticky texture, lively carbonation, long finish with light to moderate bitterness, lightly alcoholic. Wow, fantastic. Hugely malty and quite complex/fruity. Only a bit sticky, but almost no alcohol feel and definately drinkable for its size.

Poured from the bottle at The Volunteers on Baker St (London), deep brown with a large rocky slightly off-white head. A strong raspberry aroma with juicy malt in the background. Malty on the palate, with stewed pip fruits and caramal towards the middle. The finish is rich and tangy.

Wheats are not my favorite style, but the darke/stonger/more compexr the better as far as I am concerned. This one does all three of these well and therby does well by me. ;) Fruity, and achohol nose and taste.. Malty (wheaty?), but on the dry side. Nice head. One of my favourite wheats.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2006 500 ml bottle - Pours a rich mahogany, with an large white head which lasts awhile. Aroma of banana, some spice, grapes and wood varnish, though not in a bad way. Taste predominantly of banana and citrus, followed by the wheat, with some sourness in the finish, which is also when the alcohol makes itself known. Slightly sticky in the mouth, whether this is from th hops or something else, I dont know. A complex and delicious beer, one that belies its high alcohol content in its easy drinkability.
