Schöfferhofer German Wheat Beer Hefeweizen is brewed in Bavarian tradition using wheat malt. The live yeast gives bottle "conditioning" guaranteeing a refreshing fruity flavor. The yeast sediment also leads to the "cloudy" nature of the beer. Care needs to be taken when pouring. Tilt glass and pour slowly. Before pouring last quarter, roll bottle gently back and forward until sediment is dissolved.

Wässrig hefiger Antrunk. Säuerlich und etwas herb im Mittelteil, stechend bitter im Abgang. Dazu trocken, unsüffig, brotig. Schlecht! 8/4/2/3/4/4

Same bottle as pictured. Poured hazy light yellow with large head. Head is very thick. Banana notes with hint of bubblegum. Kind of weak finish. Decent hefeweizen.

500 ml bottle - pours like a classic wheat - ruddy orange, billowy white head. Aroma really nice, citrus, a bit of bubblegum, yeast. Flavour is a bit lifeless and somewhat muddled. All the wheat elements are there, but the whole thing lacks a bit of zip. Serviceable weiss, but not one I’d reach for again.

500 ml bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Cloudy orange-amber with a smallish white head. Aroma: Cooked and toasted wheats, toasted crackers, a little banana ester, lacking in the ester department though, some wee hints of slightly grassy, fresh, floral notes, too much cereal. Palate: Medium body, soft effervescence. Flav.: A good deal more of the toasted wheat and cooked cereal, a little wet cardboard, banana esters are quite faint and struggling to be known, lacks much of the likable Weizen character; dry with minimal bitterness and a wheaty, slightly banana finish.

Not a great Weizen.

500mL from the Lykcboe. Pours a nice hazy straw gold with a large white head. Aroma is your standard hefe, nice clovey esters on top of dusty yeast. Flavour has the same nice dusty yeast character with some wheaty dryness and minor clove finish. Not much going on here, not much banana or bubblegum to speak of, which is what I usually enjoy in my hefe’s. Body is light with a soft feel. Bit of a plastic flavour in the aftertaste, but it’s not a tragic flaw. Kind of bland but refreshing, though I doubt I’ll buy this one again.

Bottle from lCBO, pours a nice golden colour, not as heady as I like to see from a weizen but overall it was pretty good. it had a nice clean taste with a smooth finish and it was reasonably enjoyable

500 mL bottle. Hazy, straw-coloured beer with a white head that reduces but doesn’t disappear. Lots of wheat in the aroma, not as much yeast features as many other examples of the style. The flavour is a little flat, with sweet malt, wheat, and a little yeast. With so many other hefes available, there’s no need for this one.

Bottle. Cloudy golden orange with huge white head. Aroma wheat, bananas, cloves. Taste wheat malt, sweet banana notes. A quite ordinary hefeweizen, not especial.

Hazy orange with a big white head. Aroma is sweet, wheaty, light banana and yeasty. Flavor is medium sweet. Soft and smooth. Finish is sweet. Doesn’t hold as much wheat and banana in the aroma as most hefeweizens. 280610

Cloudy with huge white head. Aroma of wheat, citruses and banana. Slight malt sweetness in the taste. Aftertaste has some hidden bitterness.
