On tap @ Stumbling Monk. Pours murky brown with a slight reddish hue. Thin creamy head. Aroma is sweet smoky bourbon. Strong but not overwhelming. Taste is well balanced between chocolately slightly spicy roasty malts, bitter hops, and big bourbon finish. I talked to the owner a couple of weeks ago and was told that the barrel-aged portion of this beer has been cranked up over the past two years; to 2/3 of the finished product for 2012 version. Can’t complain with these results, though I do recall some previous years’ iterations of this being pure bourbon bombs, so who knows. This is better balanced.

Bottle at James’. Pours a clear brown with a thin to medium tan head. Soft bourbon on the nose, vanilla, sweetness, wood. Medium bodied, big and sweet, long wood, loads of vanilla and bourbon. A nice smoky, woody beer. Pours a deep red with a tan head. Smells of smokiness and wood, whiskey and maltiness. Taste is sweet, with lots of whiskey, vanilla and smoked wood. Had in the bottle.

This is the 2014 version drank in the 2015 season (so, a year of age). Deep reddish-brown with minimal tan head. Chocolate, dark fruits, caramel, bourbon, vanilla, plum, and brown sugar. Full bodied. Smell: not a lot of aroma, no alcohol smell, woody
Taste: taste like scotch, strong alcohol, like a mixture of scotch and beer, becomes sweet as it the beer gets warmer

Medium brown color. Nice soft bourbon and oaky nose, mildly sweet malty. The mouth is medium full body. Modestly sweet with the bourbon is subdued. Very mellow and rounded with alcohol well hidden. Very pleasant beer.
