An American original, Cream Ale was first brewed to compete with the popularity of light lagers around the turn of the century. Traditionally, cream ales have used adjuncts such as corn as part of the grist. Ours is no different, we use flaked corn to add a touch of sweetness and rolled oats to accentuate the creamy mouth feel. Herbrucker hops are used mostly for bittering, but also provide a light contribution to the aroma.

On tap at the brewery. Tastes a lot like their old light lager, but it’s been years since I had that beer. This one pours a very clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma has a bit of sulfur with hints of noble hop and some corn. The flavor is very watery with some light but noticeable spicy hops. Buttered crackers in the finish. Tastes like a slightly more flavorful light lager to me. Very crushable.

On draft at Schooners brewpub. Pours a dull yellow hue with a thin white head. Has a malty grainy ans slightly bready aroma. Sweet malty grain flavor with a creamy mouthfeel. Has a slightly sweetish malty grainy finish with some bready hints. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

8 ounce sample at the brewpub. The aroma has some hoppy spiciness present. Some biscuit and corn flakes cereal-like DMS is also present. Smells like a cream ale to me. Transparent yellow body with a medium white head present. Whoa! Holy-freaking corny DMS hits you immediately. Becomes a little dry and spicy later on. A solid representation of the style, although the maize ratio could probably be turned down a little bit.

Draft @ Schooner’s. Pours a bright straw color; clear; nice white head. Clean, crisp, perfect aroma for the style; no esters or fruitiness; beautifully handled. Medium-light to medium bodied; lively, high CO2; perfect, crisp mouthfeel. Crisp, crackery and toasty maltiness; just enough balancing mineral bitterness; again, very clean fermentation character; an ale that drinks like a lager; this is why cream ales exist, right here. Picked up like 8 bottles to take home. Delicious.

Sampled on 2/9/2010 at the brewpub. This cream ale pours light gold color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is cereal, fruity and grainy. A medium to light bodied cream ale. The malts are fruity and a touch sweet. The hops are floral. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Very clean beer. None of those off flavors you have with most cream ales, Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

If there is an answer to Budweiser this is it. i am not saying this is like Bud. It is far superior to it but this is a very light ale. Very sweet and delicious and drinkable. It is light and yet strong in flavor and aroma. Very clean and balanced. This beer is more for girls. Extremely refreshing. The brew master here is one of the best in the country!
