Courtesy SoLan. Pours a dark mahogany brown with a frothy, cream colored head that settles quickly to a bubbly edge. Wet, sudsy lacing mostly rejoins the body, with a few scant spots escaping their demise. Aromas include dark chocolate, dry cocoa powder, caramel, toasted oak, and roasted grains. A few traces of earthy hop bitterness come through as well. Flavors drop off a good bit, with dry, dusty cocoa and coffee notes lacking both sweetness and bitterness, kind of falling into a no man’s land in between. Medium to thin bodied and dry, the palate left something to be desired. Decent enough brew, but certainly far from special. CheesedMan (555) - Saint Cloud, Florida, USA - JUN 15, 2008
SoLan strikes again. Pours a deep rich black, hints of chestnut brown around the edges. Aroma is roasted with slight chocolate and coffee notes, perhaps even a touch of smoke. Flavor is more of the same, with the roasted component leading the charge. I really liked this one. cmillward (497) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUN 11, 2008
Bottle @ ORL throwdown, courtesy of SoLan. Black brown body. Thin but dark with a small tan head. Aroma of malts, roast and some chocolate. Malty and roast with a bitter finish. Not hoppy bitter, but roast bitter. Thin mouthfeel. hopscotch (11049) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUN 4, 2008
Bottle... Slap My Ass and Call Me SoLan’s Mom O-Town Throwdown, Part Sept... Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, deeply tanned head. Incredible retention. The aroma is totally mocha... chocolate and coffee. Medium-bodied with sluggish carbonation. Bland and thin with a restrained offering of coffee grounds and mild acidity. Watery, lightly bitter finish. Kudos to SoLan for the opportunity to try this beer! mcbackus (758) - Merritt Island, Florida, USA - JUN 3, 2008

Courtesy SoLan. Pours black, with a small light brown head. Smells of light peaty smoke and roasty charcoal, with touches of sweet malt and light vanilla. The flavor is pretty roasty and sweet as well. A little light on the body, but it doesnt take away from the flavor whatsoever. Drinks very nice. Some mild chocolate notes blend with the roast to give this brew some character. Nice. PhillyBeer2112 (2819) - Oviedo, Florida, USA - JUN 1, 2008
Throwdown. Funky sweet chocolate malt. A little ashy dry roast. Drier than expected with a highly roasted finish. Very dark brown/black with a thick creamy head. A touch thin. aspidites (1272) - manteca, California, USA - NOV 20, 2007
Roasted coffee with bakers cocoa and lanise permiate the nose. Rich yet quaffable and very satisfying on the palate, beautiful conditioning and wonderful mouthfeel lead to a beer that begs to be consumed pint after pint. Ibrew2or3 (8607) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - NOV 1, 2007
On tap at the Schooner’s Brewery/Restaurant in Antioch. Pours very dark but not completely so with lasting mocha head and some nice sheet lacing. It has a roasty aroma with highly roasted malts, mild burnt malts and slight licorice. The taste begins with a dry mild malt astringency along with mild burnt malts, roasted malts and an under current of black licorice. The burnt malts build nicely into the finish along with some mild chocolate malts. bb (9241) - Alamo, California, USA - SEP 4, 2007
Draft. Black beer with a big tan head. Roasty coffee aroma. Roasty, coffee flavor. Lingering (yep, you guessed it) roast and coffee (of course). medium body. Straight forward export stout, not too strong of a flavor.
