"Draft". Rich amber beer with a low off-white head. Rich malt aroma with some caramel and sweetness. Rich malt flavor with dried fruit, vanilla, and oak. On tap at Bistro’s 1st Barrel-Aged Beer Festival. 2004 vintage aged in bourbon barrel for 6 months. Hoppy, hempy, sweet piney hop aroma. Caramel is also present with some spiciness. Slight bourbon notes are also present in the nose. Rather quaffable. Lightly hazy dark copper color with an off-yellowish small head and nice lacing. Sweet, bourbon-like flavors to start, turning a bit caramelly. I get some coconut flavors later on in the finish. This is smooth and very drinkable. Another extraordinary brew from the guys at Schooners. This is a HUGE friggin’ beer. There is nothing small about it. Enormous malt bill, with a woody nose too. Very soft mouthfeel that is incredibly misleading. The alcohol is hidden somewhere. Flavor is woody, whisky, toffe/caramelish. There’s notes in there that I’m not even sure what they are. I don’t really care either because this is one fantastic beer that should be enjoyed and not anylyzed. Wow!

Bottled. Clear red. Intense roasty, woody nose. Sweet with very rich deep malt character and soft, dense mouthfeel. Lots of caramel, with plenty of wood on top of it, but also some honey and syrup. A lot of similarities to Lees Harvest Ale. aspidites (1272) - manteca, California, USA - FEB 7, 2006
UPDATED: MAR 16, 2007 Woody and malty nose with a touch of smoke and vanilla distillate. Clean and surprisingly soft on the palate with great depth and complexity. Toffee covered caramel and mild fruit notes abound with the wonderful whisky distillate charcater. A wonderful beer.
