At the brewery, 123 Oststr. Served in a 25cl Altbier tumbler. It may be a small serving, but its sensory delights more than compensate. Brilliant clarity; a little on the light side for typical Altbier, but this is one of the places where the Altbier style was defined! Creamy, long-lasting head. Aroma of resiny, herbal, even a little grassy, hops, hops, hops, with malt right behind. Phenomenal taste: extremely clean bittering, but massive dose of iso-humulone makes its presence felt mid-mouth and even a bit in the back. As in aroma, malt elegantly supports flavor. Finish is dry, and aftertaste is primarily of noble-type hops. A masterpiece!

Decent. Too water to me in this stuff... I prefer uerige. There is malt, hop extract... no real components, just imitation... Bitter taste. No complexity as uerige.

Disclaimer: Being brought up on Altbier I cannot be regarded as 100% objective. Schumacher is, however, one of the best Altbier. It is good from the flip-top bottle, but - not surprisingly - best from tap in the brewery's outlet.

kraddel (8762) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - AUG 29, 2017
Pours clear, bit lighter than most alts, but still quite clear , caramelly darker amber. Foam is rather fluffy, but very persistant. Smell is bit weak. Mild metallic notes and malts. Taste is full, round, caramelly malts all the way. Very subtile notes of hops. Refreshing and easy drinkable.

Served on tap. Clear amber-copper colour. Thick long-lasting off-white foam. Light herbal aroma. Malty-roasty flavour and a smooth bitterness which makes the 4.6% Abv seem higher.. Medium body and medium carbonation. One of the best altbier in Düsseldorf.

3.2
sinte (587) - Udine, ITALY - JUL 31, 2017
Bottle 1L. Clear amber-to-copper body with a large, frothy, off-white head, mostly lasting with some lacing; low density of tiny bubbles. Moderate malty (caramel, toasted) and hoppy (herbal, some citrus) aroma. Moderate bitter and light sweet flavour; average-lasting bitter finish. Light-to-medium body with watery-to-oily texture; soft carbonation.
