AMERICAN CREAM ALE American Cream Ale – the forgotten craft beer. Traditionally, this ale’s profile could be summed up as a medium-bodied, pale straw looking, well-carbonated, low bitter beer. Our cream ale, Hickster, has a light biscuity aroma with a hint of citrus. It is pale-straw and slightly hazy in appearance, with a fluffy white head. This approachable craft beer has a biscuity malt sweetness followed by crisp cracked corn, finishing dry…just begging for another drink. The light corn flavor is directly attributed to the cracked corn we mash-in during the brewing processes. If your palette is exhausted by hop crazy beers and/or just want something clean, refreshing, and malty, then Hickster’s definitely for you.

Nice enjoyable cream. A little on the malty side. If that was reduced a little would be a very very good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: APR 29, 2017 Out of the fridge in a glass. White head, pale gold body. Moderately sweet with a depth of malt throughout, I like a good cream ale, this hits the mark .

12 ounce bottle from Everett’s in South Beloit, IL, consumed a few minutes out of the fridge in a pint glass. Enormous fluffy snow-white-head falls gently leaving thick residue atop the lightly hazy pale gold body....corn, sweet malt and a faint herbal note (thyme, tarragon) in the nose; not exciting but pretty much what I’d expect in a decent cream ale...body is only moderately sweet at the front, excellent depth of malt throughout, with a light bitterness and slightly drier aspect at the finish, and a somewhat burnt, astringent quality that dampens the enjoyment just slightly...very full with low to moderate carbonation. Hard to make this style exciting or really fun, but this comes as close as most examples. Certainly drinkable and I’d be curious to see whether it’s any different on draught, the slight problem with the finish might be improved I’m guessing.

This stuff is okay, authentic Genny-style cream and you either like that or you’re stupid. It’s got a nose of bready grain. It’s maybe a hair oxidized but nothing horrible. This is a bit fruity so not completely clean and it’s just a touch on the sweet side, though there is a good dose of bitterness to keep it safe and sane, people. This has really high carbonation to the point of being sharp and bitey but I’m kind of enjoying that. There are a few off notes floating through here but it’s a well constructed enough beer that it’s more of a distraction than something that really ruins my day.

Taste is light with a hint of hop, but mostly a bit of corn and some balanced sweetness. mouth feel is crisp and this beer is refreshing. Good alternative to very hoppy pale ales and IPAs.

On tap at Champps Kitchen & Bar in Lombard, IL. and chilled shaker served, but let it settle to get a better read on the notes. Showed a hazed, orangey gold color, with an average, but fairly persistent layer of soft white head foam, and wavy spray as lacing. The nose was light grain, maybe a bit of DMS that was hidden by the chill, a touch of grass & greenery, and subtle malt sweetness. Light to medium bodied, with decent carbonation, the taste added moderate, earthy bitterness with some lingering quality to it, and a lightly dry/crisp finish. Nice bar food complementary brew.

Taste: semi sweet, big corn notes, creamy mouth-feel, sweet nose. Gold, partly clear with a white some lace. Medium body, and a crisp smooth mellow drinking beer that would go with a picnic.

Smooth beer with creamy texture. Sweet flavors that blend nice with the hops.

355ml bottle. Hazed gold pour, decent cream ale, definitely dryer than expected, bit of spice, sweet creamy corn.
