Consumed 30 days post the used by date but I figured it wouldn’t be crucial. Quite light in colour for a scotch ale; murky light caramel brown. Varietal nose, heavy malts, raisened, but not over the top. Quite full bodied in the mouth. Malty nose fade a little in the back palate and some fizz takes over. Malts have a slightly hard, pongy note which detracts a little. Could be associated with the possible lackof freshness? Solid beer but not as impressive, IMHO, as the 83% rating suggests. tiggmtl (4544) - East York, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 1, 2005
Caramel and dark fruits in the aroma. Clear, dark brown with nice tan head that lasts. Dark fruits, caramel and nutty flavours as well as a fairly alcoholic finish. Strong alcohol, full body. Rich. Bottle. Entered from notes. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 1, 2005
8.3 oz (250ml) bottle. Pours a dark ruby with red highlights, small head that fades quickly to a thin film. Aroma smells strongly of malt, alcohol, and smoke, with a slight floral hop note. A little too much alcohol even. Flavor is high in malt and alcohol up front with a little bitterness in the finish, also some butterscotch. Mouthfeel is very good. Good amount of carbonation with a mouth coating syrupy feel left after the gulp. Not an amazing beer, but I’m glad I tried it.
Long arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est plein avec une texture huileuse. Faible effervescence en bouche. Arrière goût de caramel chaleureux. (Rating #257) bb (9519) - Alamo, California, USA - AUG 8, 2005
Bottle. Hazy, very dark amber with a small beige head. Big caramel aroma with roasty malts. Caramel flavor, roasted malts, slight plum fruitiness to balance. Some alcohol present.

Thick light tan head on a hazy dark amber body. Sweet somewhat candied fruit aroma with yeasty tones - has an edge of homebrew to it. Sweet flavor as well with a sour tone of lemon. Lots of malt and fruit along with some light spices and chocolate. Good drinkability and really tasty. Paskal (146) - La Prairie, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 24, 2005
Bouteille-De couleur rouge-brune, une bonne mousse brunâtre, forte odeur de malte (brûlé?) et un goût amer et sucré rappelant le buttersctoch.--Bottle-A brown-reddish ale, an abondant browned head, a strong (roasted?) malt odor with a biiter & sweet taste remembering butterscotch. mjg74 (3116) - La Mesa, California, USA - JUL 21, 2005
Bottled. Pours a dark ruby/brown color. Lots of head, somewhat dirty. Sweet malty aroma. Some whiskey cask aromas wafting about. Malty and fruity. Thick rich malty flavor at that. Touch of a wine like flavor. Flavor seems to be fairly sweet in the finish. No alcohol is detected in the flavor. Good stuff, but I’ve had better. mrkimchee (1414) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 6, 2005

Bottle. Nice dark amber colour with large off-white head. Very nice aroma of sweet caramel, malts, dark fruits, butter, sugar. Same elements in the taste. Full bodied creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol well hidden ’till the finish. Excellent.
