It offers a finely wooded nose hinting at hazelnut, and is therefore distinct from traditional British scotches. It has a more rounded taste letting a discreetly full-bodied bitterness come to the fore, and will naturally seduce you.
Ingredients: Water, pale ale malt, caramel malt, aromatic malt, sugar, yeast, Kent hop, hallertau hop.

Brown and red. No head. Slightly alcoholic and artificial finish. Matellic flavour with notes of caramel. Something is wrong!

Crockett (1112) - Southampton, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 31, 2005
Pours bright cloudy red with a huge tanned bubbly foam head. Citric sour and tart. Buttery brown sugar in the nose. More of the same in the flavour. Similar to a flemish sour. Woody, some chocolate malts, brown bread. Vineous.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a huge tan head with heavy sustained lacing. Very very good looking beer. Big sweet malt aromas. Smells thick and malty as hell. Tastes of strong caramel. Oak flavors like you would taste in aged port. Very nutty with a molasses finish. Big, full-bodied beer. Very nice Scotch ale.

Not a bad Scotch ale, hazy light brown in color with a sudsy, retained tan head. The aroma is malty as should be, although there seems to be an odd rustiness to it. The flavor is rich and slightly sweet with caramel tastes, and has a snappy-but-mild bitter finish. The serious ABV is well hidden until it hits the belly. Nice & warm.

highlandlad (1480) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - APR 15, 2005
Satisfying Belgian version of a Scotch ale. Poured an amber colour with ruby highlights and a towering beige head that left outcrops of lace when it finally settled down. Sweet, rich aroma of sticky date pudding, butter, peppery alcohol and dark malt. Medium-bodied and lightly carbonated. Sweet and malty middle, with a long restrained bitter finish that lights a heater in the stomach lining. Sweet and malt-driven, so true to style. A little astringent in the finish, but overall the alcohol is well integrated. Nicely put together but the flavour is a little short on complexity. (Bottle, best before 12/8/05)

hopdog (11984) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 12, 2005
Poured a medium brownish color with a larger sized off white head. Aroma is dominated by a caramel and a little earthy. Tastes of caramel, brown sugar, and some dark fruits. Sweet. Light alcohol in the end.

Emil (6065) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - APR 3, 2005
Zythos Beer Festival, Sint-Niklaas, Belgium 2005. Red-brown colour with a baige head. Sweet spicy caramel malty aroma and a sweet malty bitter taste. Medium to full body and a sweet light alcoholic finish.

Pours a brown color with ruby highlights and a thick offwhite head. Subtle aroma of fruits (green raisin?), caramel, spices and yeast. Flavor of roasted malt, fruits, caramel and yeast. Light to medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Its ok but I had higher expectations so it feels like a letdown.
