COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It offers a finely wooded nose hinting at hazelnut, and is therefore distinct from traditional British scotches. It has a more rounded taste letting a discreetly full-bodied bitterness come to the fore, and will naturally seduce you.
Ingredients: Water, pale ale malt, caramel malt, aromatic malt, sugar, yeast, Kent hop, hallertau hop.

Bottle. Cloudy hazelnut color, so,e white head. Seductive, tasty caramel, bread, malt, nut and toffee candy with a smooth finish. Very drinkable for a heavy malt beer worth 8%.

Reddish-brown, white head, almost no-retention. Aroma is nice: malts, nuts, caramel, alcohol spicyness. Medium to full body, light carbonation. Sweet, liquor-ish and lightly bitter. Licorice, wood, nice alcohol warmth. Warm and alcoholic, yet gentle finish. Very nice!

330 ml bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy deep reddish/copper/light brown color with a small dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, apricot, apple, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted brown bread, light nuttiness/chocolate, herbal, wood, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Just a bit too fruity in the aromas, but not overwhelming. Taste of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, apricot, apple, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted brown bread, light nuttiness/chocolate, herbal, wood, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/woody/spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, apricot, apple, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted brown bread, light nuttiness/chocolate, herbal, wood, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slightly drying from lingering bitterness as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Minimal warming alcohol for 8%. Overall this is a very nice Scotch ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering, and well made example of the style.

LCI. Poured from the bottle. Nice sweet and malty scotch ale. Also a small bitter through the strong flavour of caramel. Not bad!

Scotch Ales can be somewhat imposing malt bombs. This approach from de Silly seems to be a bit more light-hearted. Brown color. It comes across with a feel thats more medium-bodied but still extremely smooth. Roasted grain and cocoa aromas. Fat malts and some fruitiness. Caramel, toast, chocolate, and succulent dark fruit flavors. Tasty.

November 21st, 2014 - With just a strip, or a mustache, of kilting pattern, Id hardly say this is silly. But the Scotch part is evident right from the pour, releasing the murky, muddy brew into the glass, and letting the head cling to the glass, even as it splashes around in the roiling aftermath of filling the glass. Given the style, and its tempestuous appearance, the aroma is lighter than expected, with a fresh Spring air smell, like a luxury version of Irish Spring soap, mixed with white wine and chardonnay. The flavor is brilliantly balanced, light, with a slight tang and a lot of stickiness. Red wine and white juice sugars blend together effortlessly, and brighten up with the addition of tartaric acid, resulting in a flavor similar to top quality maple syrup. Sticky but drinkable, this is a memorable Scotch Ale, and disappears quicker than expected.
