This "imperial IPA" has a very strong hop aroma and flavor, however it isnt as bitter as the Gale Force IPA. There is a strong malt backbone to offer a level of balance but with over two and a half pounds of hops per barrel it resonates hops from start to finish. With so much flavor happening you miss the 8.6% alcohol by volume so be careful when serving or drinking. Hops were added at every stage of the process...it was dry-hopped with chinooks for two weeks. 75 IBUs. Hops: chinook, centennial, columbus, cascade, bullion.

355 ml bottle @ Timo A.
Pours clear golden color with a small head. Cardboard and vegetables on the aroma, herbal, jelly beans, sweet fruits and pine, hops and orange. Sweet flavor with orange and pineapple, some mild gooseberry notes, alcohol is quite well hidden, caramel malts and some resin. The aroma feels a bit off at first, gets better towards the end. Something is a bit off here though.

Aroma is passion fruit, grapefruit, citrus, lemon grass and pinecone. Taste is sweet malts which are full bodied and met with complex hops, malts, and fruit notes that match the aroma. Appearance is a hazy amber with a thin pearl head that retains quite well

Clear orange color with off-white head. Aroma is hoppy with earthy and sweet orange notes. There is also some sweet malt and stale grains note. Taste starts somehow sweet and fruity but gets quickly bitter and dusty. Bitterness is quite harsh with lots of grapefruit pith. Body is medium-light with medium carbonation. Overall its a very classic, old school type DIPA. It has the harsh bitterness and earthy hops you expect from a classic example of the style.

Light haze on this gold beer, tidy white head. Palate is smooth and has decent fine carbonation. Decent malt base, a light creamy sweetness. Hops start with a spicy resin followed by marmalade and grapefruit. Bitterish citric peel before a spicy finish and linger. Nicely done, very drinkable.

Moderate to full, malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light tropical fruitiness, some grapefruit - light piney hoppyneness, light alcohol.Body is medium, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, light caramel and tropical fruitiness, some grapefruit - light piney hoppyness, faint alcohol. Finish is average, malty and dryish, light caramel and faint tropical fruitiness, some grapefruit/piney hoppyness, light alcohol. OK hoppy and fruity aroma, but flavor/finish lacks fruitiness. Bottle shared at Leightons, as Scuttlebutt Hoptopia. Hazy orange, opaque, lightly sparkling, decent foamy off-white head, full lacing. Aroma is dried flowers, mint, orange, a little soap. Body is medium, smooth, soft carbonation. Taste is pine-forward, some toffee, floral and resinous with a dry finish. Not worthy of the import premium but its a decent enough DIPA overall.

Bottle by thanks to Dan. It pours hazed orange - amber with a thick yellow - white head. The nose is bitter - sweet, stewed orange, peach, trimmed fruit cocktail and muffin. The taste is crisp, bitter orange, grassy, waxy citrus peel florals and peppery spice with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. A bit soapy, but not bad overall.

Bottle split at the Bespin cloud system, thanks to Danny, 21/01/16. Lightly hazed orange golden with a decent off white covering.
