COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This "imperial IPA" has a very strong hop aroma and flavor, however it isn’t as bitter as the Gale Force IPA. There is a strong malt backbone to offer a level of balance but with over two and a half pounds of hops per barrel it resonates hops from start to finish. With so much flavor happening you miss the 8.6% alcohol by volume so be careful when serving or drinking. Hops were added at every stage of the process...it was dry-hopped with chinooks for two weeks. 75 IBU’s. Hops: chinook, centennial, columbus, cascade, bullion.

Draft pour pint athe Scuttlebutt. Pours an orange copper color with a lasting fizz head. Grain forward aroma. I actually enjoy this much more after it sat and wares up a bit. Good flavors, really came out this way. Some orange, and a balanced grains and hop finish. Pretty good.

650 ml bottle. Pours copper color with light head. Light aromas of oranges, brown sugar, and pine. Flavors of toasted malts, brown sugar, and bitter orange peel. Quite carbonated - flat bitter finish.

Vacation 2011 - Seattle and Olympic National Park

8/20/2011: Scuttlebutt Hoptopia Imperial India Pale Ale... Aroma: Frush, juicy citrus, including grapefruit, tangerine, hints of pineapple and mango. Appearance: The color of honey, hazy; nice, bubbly beige head with spotty lacing. Flavor: Toffee maltiness overrun by tons of great hops; ample bitterness that grows throughout: citrus peel, orange, red grapefruit; just a touch of nice alcohol vents in the finish. Palate: Average. Overall: Very tasty!

1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle (Alc. 8% by Vol.). Rating #42 for this beer.

650ml brown bottle. Golden with haze, creamy white cap with great sticky lacing. Aroma has caramel and orange zest. Taste has heavy caramel malts, toasted malt, orange peel. Citrus and caramel malt aftertaste and light hops, bitterness is a bit restrained. Overall, a decent beer, pleasant but could be a bit more aggressive.

Bold and bitter. Loaded with notes of grapefruit juice, orange rind, resin, perfume and wildflowers. Malts are toasty, with only a mild, toffee-like sweetness. Pungent, grassy and stem-like bitterness. If you can handle its rough edges, it’s an OK double IPA.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours a nice copper color with a short lived off white head. The nose has light tropical hop notes with a bit of citrus zing. The flavor is pretty subdued for a IIPA. There are notes of toasted brown bread, grapefruit, orange, and tropical fruit. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Middle of the road for the style, but not offensive in any way.

Powerfully malty DIPA. Earthy with some rough citrus in the back. Some resin accompanied by caramel sweetness. Strong bitter finish. Harsh but good.

Bottle with no date, and I’m guessing it’s past its prime based on the taste. Pours lightly hazy amber (I stopped before pouring all the yeast in) with a decent-sized off-white head. Nose is buttery caramel and toffee with a hint of pine and herbal hopping. MIght have guessed this was a barley wine if I was tasting this blind. Taste is about the same, but with more pine sap and an unpleasant sharp, boozy, grassy hoppiness. Thick and slick in the mouth, resinous. I’m guessing this is a lot better fresh, based on the other reviews.

0,355l bottle at home. some number that says 815 which I would assume means bottling. smells of caramel, pines, bit sweetish, light grass and herbs, flowery, light nuts. good smell bit on the sweet side. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes sweet at first, then rather bitter, citric notes, herbs, light pines, candy notes, some stale hops. finishes rather light with notes with medium bitterness and citric notes, herbs and light pines. okish, taste not too great, maybe also an issue of freshness, bit watery / stale taste.

Pours Amber with a huge foamy head. Slightly over carbonated. The aroma is very nice, notes of Belgian spice and grass. The flavor is peppery above a nice malt base. The hops come through early and often. Lingering after taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
