Passable brown, quite malty, nutty, still with some hops. Downtown Marriott location.Lacey brown. Scrapersnbeer (1532) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - JUL 10, 2012
Smokey, nutty aroma. Clear brown with an unusual volume of tan head. Medium bitter contrasts with pipe tobacco like roast malt. Body is on the lighter side for brown ale. Fairly routine stuff. stangger (619) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 27, 2012
On tap at barnacle billy’s in maine - perkin’s cove. Light brown pour. Caramel, chocolate aroma lying about what is to come. Watery, bland taste with a slight punch of nuttiness and hoppiness. Tough day for beer. joebudzjoe (676) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 21, 2012
Draft from Coalhouse Pizza, Stamford, CT. This is a softy, pillowy brown ale with sweet, brown sugar flavors from the malts and a smoky, almost tobacco like flavor. Not bad. TATE (407) - Lubec, Maine, USA - DEC 20, 2011
UPDATED: SEP 23, 2012 Bottle. Pours a deep ruby color with little head. Nutty aroma that comes through in the flavor as well. A well balanced brown. Chocolate malt comes through with hop bitterness at the end. Lots of carbonation.

tap at Portland brewpub - Pours dark amber-brown with good lacing. The flavor has a similar hops profile to the red ale while the caramel malt is there but seems a bit lacking. It’s a simple brew and not a bad one though I thought it was very similar to the red. rocbyter (2140) - Waterbury, Connecticut, USA - SEP 27, 2011
Strong malt aroma with a light amount of hops. Dark amber color with a medium brown head. Light beginning with a roasted malt finish. drougkolya (276) - Otterburn Park, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 4, 2011

12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours brown with a thick, cream-colored head. Flavor of nuts, toasted malts, and light hops. Flavor strong of the malts. Average texture. A pretty good brown ale. LiteWait (266) - New Hampshire, USA - MAR 7, 2011
On draft @ brew pub. Poured with a small, lasting, beige head. Some lacing. Heavy malt, roasted coffee, and a touch of chocolate as well. Pleasant to your nose. Taste is similar to the aroma. Average carbonation. Has a creamy yet dry finish. I can drink a 6 pack with ease, It’s worth a try if you can get a fresh bottle. I would buy again.
