Roasted barley is the trademark of stout, a bittersweet separation from its cousin Porter. Our deep black stout is made with a grist containing 15% organic oatmeal to create its remarkable silky texture.

Draft, Selins Grove Brewing Co. Pours a dark, brownish-black color; thin, light tan head. Plenty of roasted malts and milk chocolate in the aroma; softly roasted with a hint of mint coming through. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: plenty of milk chocolate, roasted malts, and a slight, oily nuttiness; dense, toasty oatmeal stout with a chocolatey core; soft roastiness. Medium, milk chocolate and roasted malt finish.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours black with amber edges and a rocky tan head. The aroma is sweet chocolate, some berries, and lots of grain. the flavor is bitter chocolate with some caramel and earthy hops everywhere. Strong toasted oat notes take over the finish. Decent.

Tap at brewpub. Black pour with a thick creamy light brown head (on nitro BTW). Roasty burnt toast malt aroma. Nice roasted malt flavor with tons of coffee in the finish. Silky smooth mouthfeel from the nitro, like slipping into bed naked with quality silk sheets. The addition of oats adds a little body. Overall, a good true-to-style nitro Irish Stout. Shame theres no way to get this to go.

On tap at the brewpub, poured black with a nice tan head. There was a watery feel to this beer and it did not seemed very well balanced.

for a stout i thoguht this was thin and lacking in taste. It looked really good but beyond that there wasnt much to it. perhaps i got a bad batch. If im ever up in selinsgrove ill have to try again.

wunderbier (1434) - Tampere, FINLAND - APR 18, 2005
Pitch black hue with a tan, creamy head. Chocolate, coffee, oats, dust in the aroma. Moderate to heavily sweet flavor becomes a moderately sweet, lightly bitter finish. Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation. The bottom line is: smooth, but this would be better without the "nitro kill".

Dickinsonbeer (5074) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - MAR 1, 2005
On nitro at Pub. Pitch black, smooth creamy head but fades. Lots of roasted barley with hints of chocolate and nuttiness. Fairly sweet with some oil-like quilities similar to sam smiths- from the oatmeal. Should be labelled an oatmeal stout due to the 15% organic oatmeal used in the mash.

Probiere (992) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 24, 2004
On nitro at the pub. Smooth and innocuous, creamy, like all nitros. Nose largely chocolate and roast. Tan head and good body. Sweet and roasty throughout with a clean finish and no bitter kickback. Good lacing. This would be be better off the nitro.
