12oz bottle acquired in trade with odeed (thanks!). Poured a dark brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, cocoa powder, and nutty. Tastes of bitter chocolate, roast, caramel, and light coffee. A pretty nice schwarzbier. DietPepsican (1591) - @ $13.99, Iowa, USA - JUN 10, 2008
Left at my house by iowaherkeye...hope he doesn’t see this rating and figure out I drank this....Pours almost black with a medium sized tan head. Aroma is roasted caramel and some chocolate. Flavor was more roasted caramel, chocolate, some smoke and nuts. Finishes a little thin, dry. Bitterness peaks around 2. GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - MAY 26, 2008
12oz bottle from heemer77. Thanks Eric. Poured a deep dark brown color with orange highlights. The head was light tan and left a little lace behind. Aroma was of milk chocolate and molasses. Medium bodied and sweet with roasted malt, chocolate, and molasses flavors. There was a hint of bitterness toward the end. Not bad at all. 12 oz bottle from Country Club Liquors; Nose of light chocolate, roastiness, nutiness, and a light vanilla note; clear very dark brown with rouge edges and a small beige head; flavor has chocolate, coffee, and some very light hop bitterness. Not too bad for a local brew! iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - JAN 26, 2008
Another brew thanks to Eric (heemer77). Looks black unless up to light--clear deep ruby with a 1/2 finger beige head, fading to a ring before long. Aroma of roasted malts and a little bit of acidic coffee and hints of milk chocolate. A little bit roastier than the aroma had led on with some light piney hop notes--I thought I did smell that in the aroma, but wasn’t sure enough of myself to put it in the rating. Not picking up on as much chocolate, though. Just a hint of soy is noted toward the semi dry ashy finish. Bitterness around a 3. Low carbonation with a medium body. Pretty decent brew.

Bottled, purchased at Johncy’s in North Liberty, IA. This is the second time I have picked up a relatively obscure California brew at this store. Black with garnet highlights at the edges. Light brownish khaki head. Toasted almonds and milk chocolate come out in the aroma. I also get a fruity hint of blueberries. The taste is day old coffee with some cheap chocolate chips. There is a dry, woody finish with some tobacco. A decent brew, but nothing special. bhensonb (15194) - Woodland, California, USA - JAN 21, 2008
Bottle. Black in color with ruby glints. Decent tan head. Thin to medium body with soft, voluminous carbonation. It tastes toasted. More sweet than bitter. Something porter like with coffee and chocolate. There’s some hop, so the finish is roughly balanced. It is not all that sweet, and the finish is reasonably dry. Perhaps too tasty for the style, but it is a very good lager. kp (10882) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - DEC 12, 2007

clear dark brown, wispy tan head, bits of lace,
slightly sweet chocolate and roasted aroma,
rich chocolate flavor, touch of dark caramel sweetness to bring out the richness in the chocolate, nice balancing roasted, touch of coffee, light bitterness aids the roasted in providing balance, sweet chocolate finish,

Bottle from Park Lane Liquor in Lancaster, CA. Pours a nearly opaque dark brown color with a medium and rocky beige head that dissipates slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Roasted malt, nuts and coffee in the nose. Medium-bodied with a nice roasted character. Flavors of malt, nuts and coffee are present, plus some hops in the background. The finish is dry with bittersweet coffee and chocolate. Lingering hoppy aftertaste. Pretty good overall. Wegro (332) - Fresno, California, USA - SEP 22, 2007
UPDATED: NOV 18, 2007 Bottle. Very dark body, can see dark ruby when held up to a light. head doesn’t stick around very long. Flavor reminds me of sierra nevada’s porter, little bit less coffee. Nicely assertive, not very sweet at all. I like the bitterness! This is a good beer. Now I have to try the other moto brews on the shelf!
